Several houses in Puig de Ros burgled — residents feel less safe
Overnight into Saturday, residents of a quiet villa district in Llucmajor suddenly faced the question: How safe is our neighborhood anymore? In Puig de Ros, according to reports from neighbors, there were several burglaries that woke people up. A foreign couple only hours later noticed that jewelry worth around €100,000 had been stolen.
Quiet methods, quick work
Residents report that the burglars worked very quietly. According to accounts, access was apparently created with a small, silent drill next to a window. Those who were out late in the evening heard nothing unusual — until in the morning the first front door was opened and the shock followed. The police assume that the perpetrators had observed in advance and had scouted the houses.
In the same night two masked individuals were said to have roamed through the streets Carrer de Voltor and Carrer de Xoric. At several houses attempts were made to break doors and windows; in two cases the perpetrators succeeded. According to reports from the street, they tear metal or plastic frames near the lock — a method that has been reported here more than once.
Discontent about security
The local residents' association Mirador del Delta expresses disappointment. Much had been promised — more patrols, cameras — but in practice patrols would be rarely seen, it says. In 2021, residents collected more than 3,000 signatures to draw attention to the issue. Cameras were installed, says the town council, but the effect remains limited if police presence is lacking.
Many neighbors have therefore installed cameras themselves and upgraded alarms. This helps, people say, especially for documentation: current investigations by the Civil Guard are under way and they are evaluating surveillance footage. Yet it annoys people when calls for help come and operations occur too late, so that thieves can flee.
What is important now
The Civil Guard recommends vigilance: close windows at night, check locks, and report unknown vehicles or persons immediately. For many here this is reassuring, for others only a small consolation. Those who live in Puig de Ros know the bitter reality: quiet, olive trees, tiled roofs — and the worry of not feeling safe at night anymore.
If you have seen something suspicious or can share footage, contact the police. Only together can this level of audacity be curbed — and yes, we know this sounds cliché, but sometimes safety starts with the neighborhood: a glance out the window, a photo on your phone, a call at 3:00 a.m.
Further investigations are ongoing. The residents of Puig de Ros now await visible presence and concrete measures — and hope that something like this does not happen again.
