In the small town of Petra, tonight is a big celebration: traditional dances, live music, crafts, a wine tasting, and a fireworks display at 11:00 PM.
Petra Comes Together: PetraFest Kicks Off Today
\nWhen the lights on the Plaza del Centre d'Art turn on and the scent of fried cheese and churros wafts through the streets, you realize: Petra is having a festival again. In the village center, just a few steps from the church and Calle Major, the program begins at 17:00 with traditional dances. Not a big spectacle, but a matter of the heart — the women in embroidered aprons, the men in their typical shoes. You can immediately see who has been taking part for years.
\nWhat is happening today (briefly)
\n17:00 – Folklore and dance on the main stage.
19:30 – Wine Tasting on Plaza del Centre d'Art (local wines, small fees per tasting).
Live music and a craft market run parallel, Food Trucks line the Carrer d'en Xisca.
23:00 – Finale with a large fireworks display over the Plaza.
Between market stalls and music there is plenty to discover: leather goods from neighbor Joan, handmade ceramics by Maria and small stalls with jams so good you might secretly pack jars away. For children there is a carousel and street performers who repeatedly attract small groups of spectators.
\nA tip from a local
\nArrive early if you are looking for a parking space — the narrow streets around Petra fill up quickly. I usually walk from the edge of town, bring a light jacket (evening temperatures can get chilly) and a few euros in cash for the wine stand: for 2–3 tastings you typically pay under 10 euros. Oh, and do not forget the camera: the fireworks reflect beautifully in the white facades of the houses.
\nThere are also celebrations in other parts of the island today, for example in Inca. But Petra has this special village character: no big stages, no crowds like in the city, more chatting with neighbors, a glass of wine in hand and at the end the sky exploding in colors. See you later — perhaps I will see you on the Plaza.
