Because he refused to pay tow and parking fees, a 70-year-old climbed into his Porsche and sped away from the site. A pursuit from Palma to the Guardia Civil station in Llucmajor ended with his arrest.
A Short Spark, a Long Pursuit
It began like a bad day with a bill: a Porsche had been collected on Saturday evening by a municipal tow service in Palma. At around 6:15 PM, witnesses report, the owner appeared on the premises, apparently refused the charges, and then sat back behind the wheel of his sports car.
Through the barrier and off
Instead of paying, the 70-year-old allegedly broke through the barrier and left the yard. Two employees were reportedly barely out of the way as the car sped off. I called out, says a neighbor who heard the metal door slam. Then everything happened very fast: emergency calls, blue lights, several patrol cars.
From Palma via Can Pastilla to Llucmajor
The pursuit ran along the exit routes toward the southeast — many refer to the M-19 — past Can Pastilla, through several industrial areas and finally to Llucmajor. Local police patrol cars, a motorcycle unit, and later the Guardia Civil were involved. Several residents filmed parts of the drive on their mobile phones, and the footage quickly circulated in messenger groups.
Ending at the station
The manhunt ended immediately in front of the Guardia Civil station in Llucmajor. Officers set up a roadblock and stopped the vehicle. The man was arrested on the spot. He now faces charges including property damage for breaking through the barrier, dangerous driving, and resisting law enforcement.
The car was again secured and taken to the municipal depot. Tow fees and fines, as many know, can quickly run into the hundreds — trouble on several levels.
The evening's lesson
The mood in the neighborhood is mixed: relief that no one was seriously injured, and a bit of headshake at the pensioner who apparently preferred floor it rather than pay a ticket. Will it be cheaper in hindsight? Unlikely.
A final note: When a car is towed, anger and frustration are understandable. But fleeing behind the wheel endangers people and can quickly lead to serious criminal consequences.
