Serious accident on the country road near Santa Eugènia
Around 1:30 PM yesterday, a serious traffic accident occurred on a country road near Santa Eugènia: an approximately 50-year-old motorcyclist from Germany collided head-on with a delivery van. The man’s Harley-Davidson bore German license plates, and the rider was recovered with serious head injuries.
First aid, then urgent transport to hospital
Eyewitnesses describe a chaotic scene shortly after the collision. An emergency doctor team and rescue services were quickly on site, treated the injured man and transported him in critical condition by ambulance to the clinic – according to the operation information to the emergency department in Palma, where he was admitted. The driver of the delivery van appeared to be uninjured.
Concerning: Witnesses say the motorcyclist was wearing an open-face helmet. This likely contributed to the severity of the head injuries. Whether alcohol, speed or driver error played a role is still unclear. The Guardia Civil has opened an investigation into the cause of the accident.
Forensic work, road closure and witnesses
The accident site remained closed for several hours while evidence was collected and traffic was diverted. Residents and road users reported long tailbacks on the route between Santa Eugènia and the surrounding towns. A witness who did not want to give his name said: "It was terrible, suddenly the motorcycle was across, shards everywhere."
Police officers questioned residents and other road users. Initial photos from the scene show the deformed machine and a damaged delivery van; investigators plan to release further details only after completing the evidence collection.
A serious reminder for all road users
For many on site the accident was also a wake-up call: open-face helmets offer less protection, especially in collisions with heavy vehicles. Motorcyclists in the area reminded others to pay attention to visibility and winding stretches – especially now, when the weather is changeable and roads can become greasy in the afternoon.
Relatives of the injured have since been informed, officials say. The Guardia Civil will provide more information about the health condition and the course of events in the coming days once reports and witness statements have been evaluated.
If you were in the Santa Eugènia area between 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM yesterday and saw anything, the police ask you to come forward. Every small piece of information can help clarify the exact sequence of the accident.
