Around 7:30 a.m., the sound of sirens disrupted the small bars on Plaça del Moll as neighbors in a multi-family building on the edge of town discovered a severely injured woman and immediately called the emergency number. The 48-year-old woman was found in her apartment with serious neck injuries.

Paramedics and the Guardia Civil were quickly on the scene. The rescuers performed life-saving measures on site and then transported the woman to the hospital in Inca. According to statements from witnesses and a resident who preferred not to be named, the apartment on Carrer de la Mar caused unusually much commotion that morning — people stood with blankets and towels at the door, some cried, others spoke on the phone frantically.

A man, apparently the woman’s partner, was arrested at the scene. According to initial information, this was an arrest with no prolonged attempt to flee. The Guardia Civil has taken over the investigations and is working to clarify the exact sequence of events and possible backgrounds.

The mood on the street is somber. The owner of a small café opposite said she had seen two police cars in the morning and immediately sensed that something was wrong: “Something like this doesn’t happen here often. You always hope it remains a quiet island, but today it was different.” Many residents had already spoken to police officers earlier in the day; some gave tips to the officers, which are now part of the investigations.

The authorities ask the public for calm and urge not to spread unverified information while investigations continue. There is currently no official statement on a motive.

Our thoughts are with the injured woman and her relatives. As soon as further verified information from the Guardia Civil becomes available, we will report.
