Mallorca Tour: Hams Caves and Pearl Shop with Hotel Pickup
The Hams Caves are over 10 million years old, but people were only able to enjoy their beauty after they were discovered in 1905 by cave explorer Pedro Caldentey Santandreu (1886–1950), when he was digging for onyx, a gemstone that is plentiful in the region. In 1910 he managed to produce electricity to illuminate the cave, even before electricity reached the village of Porto Cristo. With a water wheel, a dynamo and a water tank he generated 16 hours of electric power to enable visits to the caves. In the Blue Cave, with its spectacular new blue lighting using LED technology, you can enjoy the educational documentary "Discovering the Past" about the history of Mallorca, its first inhabitants, the formation of the Hams Caves and their discovery.
