Mittags wie ein Mallorquiner: Palmas beste Lunch-Adressen
In Palma, lunch isn't a side note — it's what many people head for all morning. The traditional menú del día is still available on many corners: three courses, usually with a salad or soup, a main and a dessert, often including a drink and for well under €20. As a local I like to set off for an afternoon walk through the neighbourhood and end up in a small place with quick, honest food. This list is not a sterile ranking but my personal favourites, organised by neighbourhood: spots around Plaça d’Espanya, the winding La Lonja, the old town with its shady terraces and, of course, the places by the sea. I also name vegetarian options and a few higher-end recommendations for special days. Tip: If you come between 13:30 and 15:30 you experience Palma the way most people here eat — calm, relaxed and very tasty. Bon profit — no, better: enjoy your meal from here in the city centre!

Around Plaça d’Espanya: good, quick lunch menus

Plaça d’Espanya is practical: trains, buses and many shops meet here, and the choice of lunch places is large. My tip: pick a small place off the main axis — their menus are often more honest and cheaper. Try a Mallorcan paella or the daily fish special, and afterward a slice of apple tart — many nearby bakeries still bake their own. If you're lucky you'll get an outside table and can watch the comings and goings.

La Lonja: sea proximity and creative cuisine

La Lonja is a compact, lively area near the old harbour with lots of small restaurants and tapas bars. Many kitchens here experiment with creative combinations while still offering good midday menus. My tip is similar: step away from the busiest streets and you'll often find better value and more character. Try seasonal dishes or a fresh catch prepared simply.

By the sea: fish, breeze and relaxed tables

Eating by the water has its own mood — gull cries, a light breeze and the smell of salt. Classics are the simple fish platters in family-run places by the harbour: grilled fish, cuttlefish or a hearty fish stew. For something a bit fancier sit along the promenade; many restaurants offer a menú del día with views of the boats and often very fair prices. Tip: walk a little away from the tourist pier — you'll sit more affordably and alongside locals.

Vegetarian & Vegan: enjoy Palma without meat

Vegetarian and vegan cuisine in Palma has developed a lot in recent years. There are small, lovingly run places working with seasonal vegetables, legumes and homemade sauces. A few spots in La Lonja and Santa Catalina offer set midday menus that are filling and full of flavour — often with creative raw salads, baked aubergines or rice dishes with local herbs. If you want to be sure, ask for the dish of the day: it often offers the best value.
