Balneario Illetas is one of those places on Mallorca you know either from old postcards or from funny summer stories. I’ve been there at sunrise with a coffee in hand and late at night when lanterns flicker and the music is quiet. The club sits right on the small bay of Illetas, with views over Palma Bay, and combines classic beach atmosphere with a large, somewhat opulent offering: sunbeds, terraces, a small boutique and even wellness treatments at sea level.
If it’s your first time: plan to reserve on weekends, especially in high summer. Midday is often the busiest – the paella is popular, so order early or be lucky. For dinner, a table near the edge is worth it so you can see the lights over the water. It’s not the smallest chiringuito but rather a spacious club with around 200 sunbeds and room for a larger crowd. Still, it doesn’t feel sterile; there are little details everywhere that make the visit feel more familiar. In this guide I write honestly about the food, the drinks, practical notes and the evening mood – with a few tips on how to best spend your day there.
The place: a brief overview of Balneario Illetas
Balneario Illetas sits on the Illetas promenade and is something like the large, familiar beach address of the area. If you come from Palma along the winding coastal road, it’s hard to miss: an extensive complex with several terraces, a lounge area and many sunbeds. The site feels like a small beach town — on about 9,000 square metres there are sunbeds (around 200), tables for well over 200 guests and nooks with a bit more privacy.
A few practical facts I find important: the season is typically from March to mid-November, doors open early (around 9:00) and close late — often until 02:00. Parking is limited (around 50 spaces), so either allow time to look or take a taxi. There is a lift, which makes Balneario significantly more accessible than many other beach places — a big plus if you have luggage, a stroller or reduced mobility.
The atmosphere changes throughout the day: mornings are quiet, ideal for coffee and a book; noon is busy with families and groups; and in the evening things are dimmed, candles lengthen the hours into the night. For me Illetas is exactly the place where you can have both a relaxed beach day and a slightly fancier dinner without driving far. A reservation is definitely advisable on weekends and in high summer — I’ve had bad experiences when I didn’t.

Practical: reservations, sunbeds, wellness and accessibility
Half the success at Balneario is good planning. Sunbeds with umbrella usually cost around €12 (fluctuating slightly by season), and they fill up quickly on weekends. If you want a fixed spot, it’s best to reserve by phone or via the online form on the website the day before.
Important to know: there’s a small boutique on site for beach items and local specialties — I often find fleur de sel or local olive oils as souvenirs. There is also a wellness area at beach level (massage services), ideal if you want a calmer pampering day.
Staff are multilingual, usually speaking Spanish, English and German — handy for international visitors. If you come with children: there is enough space to run around, but the promenade is nearby, so keep an eye on them.
Accessibility is better than at many other clubs: there’s an elevator and level access to the beach area. Parking exists but is limited; on hot summer days arriving early or using alternative transport helps. One small tip: pay by card, but have some cash for tips or small buys in the boutique.
Evening program, events and atmosphere
In the evening the atmosphere at Balneario changes: daytime beach, evening lounge feeling. Operators decorate tables with candles and torches, which is especially pleasant on warm summer nights. There are regular events — Sunday afternoons with a party vibe, occasional DJ sets and themed evenings. In recent seasons small markets have also been offered: the so-called Blue Market sells handmade products like salt flakes, ceramics or jewellery.
For special occasions there is a VIP terrace in cooperation with a champagne brand, where oysters, sushi and champagne are the focus. I was there once at sunset: the view across the bay, a light breeze and a glass of sparkling wine — simple, but felt like a short holiday.
If you want to enjoy undisturbed, I recommend coming on weekdays or reserving early in the evening. For those looking for atmosphere, Sundays are perfect — it’s sociable but not over the top. The music generally stays low enough for conversation; it’s not a club that’s loud all night but rather a place that drifts into the late hours.
In short: Balneario Illetas manages the balance between everyday beach life and a touch of glamour. It’s no longer a secret tip, but with a few tricks it offers a very pleasant Mallorcan day.
