Botànic im Can Bordoy – Pflanzenbetontes Essen in Palma
When I think of Botànic at Can Bordoy, the first images that come to mind are the subdued lighting of the library and the rustle of the leaves in the hotel garden. The restaurant blends the comforting feel of an old house with modern, plant-focused dishes — without a preachy tone. Chef Andrés Benítez works consistently with local, organic ingredients; much of the vegetables come from nearby (km 0) and appear in surprising combinations. The menu changes seasonally: in the mornings there are simple, nourishing bowls, while evenings offer a tasting-friendly menu that appeals both to vegetarians and to fish and meat lovers. I recommend sitting on the terrace on mild days when the sun warms the stone wall. By the way: hotel guests can enjoy a residents’ menu for €35, perfect after a long day of sightseeing. Reservations are advisable, especially around holidays — and yes, the staff speaks English, Spanish and German.

Botànic at Can Bordoy

Botànic is housed in the elegantly renovated townhouse Can Bordoy, right by the old town. The interior is cozy: velvet benches, bookshelves and plants that give the room depth. The menu is dominated by vegetable dishes with clear flavors: 'Lettuce Tacos' as a small, cheeky starter (with Ibérico, beetroot or a crunchy vegan version), followed by creative combinations like cauliflower with chickpeas, tabbouleh and feta, or leek with truffle and a soft-boiled egg. Fish lovers order the steamed sea bass with seaweed notes; those who prefer heartier fare try grilled organic chicken with a spicy Thai-style salad side. Desserts are never too sweet — for example, banana with miso toffee. Personal tip: ask about the residents' menu if you are staying at the hotel — very good value for money.
