A modern house above Palma: lots of glass, personal art and an outdoor area that invites you to linger. A home that makes days and evenings equally beautiful.

Das Haus des Lichts – Modernes Wohnen oberhalb von Palma
I visited on a cool morning in Son Vida when this house with its large glass surfaces almost seemed to pull me to the upper edge of the town. The owners call it the “House of Light” — and with good reason. From up here the view stretches over Palma to the sea, and the rooms were planned so that outside and inside flow into one another. The family placed great value on fabrics, soft colours and custom-made cabinets so that nothing disturbs the view. Upstairs everything is open: a generous dining area with a ten-seat table, a bright lounge with a custom sofa landscape, and a stainless-steel kitchen accented with hand-blown red glass from Algaida. Bikes aren’t parked here — instead there are Gandia Blasco loungers by the pool, a small fitness room offers city views from the treadmill, and everywhere you discover personal finds: photos, paintings by the homeowner and metallic pots that tell stories of travels. It is not a museum, but rather a very considered, lively home where details make the difference.

Location & views in Son Vida

Son Vida sits high above Palma and this house takes full advantage of the position: large windows, glass railings and terraces that open the view. In the mornings I like to drink coffee here at 7:30 when the city is still asleep and the light lies golden over the roofs. In the evenings the skyline becomes a silhouette—perfect for small dinners or a glass of Mallorcan red wine on the terrace.

Bedrooms & private interiors

Downstairs are the four bedrooms, each with its own colour palette and an en-suite bathroom. Silk, mother-of-pearl tones and blackout curtains ensure pleasant nights. Narrow built-in wardrobes hide televisions and a BOSE iPod station—everything very well thought out. The master bedroom feels more like a retreat: muted colours, delicate fabrics, absolute calm.

Outdoor area, pool & amenities

The lowest level is entirely reserved for the outdoor area: a large pool with a teak deck, a smaller splash-pool corner, Gandia Blasco loungers and an Indonesian daybed from Paravana. The owner brought two floating foam loungers back from a visit to Miami—they look like little clouds. Small details, such as metallic-painted pots and orchids (real and artificial), make the terraces cosy.
