I have visited Can Estades several times now and each visit feels like a breath of country air — without any fuss. The house is local, with thick stone walls, small balconies and terraces where mornings begin slowly. The atmosphere is familial: you are greeted with a smile, breakfast is honest (homemade jam, fresh bread, eggs made to order) and the small details make the difference – a blanket for the evening on the terrace, a map of walking routes, a tip for a simple nearby beach.
Despite the calm, Calvià is not far: in ten minutes you can reach cafés and supermarkets, and in 20 minutes you are in Palma. For trips into the Serra de Tramuntana, Can Estades is a good starting point — you sleep deeply, get up and drive off. The hotel suits couples, groups of friends or families who prefer a relaxed, personal place rather than anonymous comfort. My recommendation: dinner on the terrace, then a short walk under the starry sky — simple luxury.
Can Estades Finca Hotel – The house and its charm
At first glance Can Estades appears unspectacular: an old Mallorcan house with thick stone walls, simple wooden beams and terraces that open onto views of olive and almond trees. To me the charm lies in the mix of old and new. The hosts have renovated carefully: you feel the age of the house, while heating, air conditioning and Wi‑Fi all work reliably. There are just under a dozen rooms, from cozy doubles with stone walls to duplex suites for families.
The property is compact: a large pool with a few sunbeds, next to it a pool house with a jacuzzi and a small fitness corner — not a spa temple, but honestly usable. Mornings are where everything starts: the buffet with fresh bread, homemade jam and juices. Eggs are prepared to order and the coffee is strong enough to start the day. On Wednesdays you immediately notice that the family behind the house likes to bring people together: a concert, film or a small cultural program with a tapas evening where local specialties are served.
The location is practical: a short drive to beaches like Palmanova or Costa de la Calma, golf courses in the area, and Palma is reachable in about 20 minutes. For walkers, small paths start right outside the door — ideal for a pre-breakfast round. I especially like the hotel for its quiet, personal service and the simple, well-made evening cuisine. It is not a place for grand luxury shows, but for people seeking an authentic finca experience.
Why choose a finca in Calvià – Feeling, location, tips
Can Estades may seem unspectacular at first: an old Mallorcan house with thick stone walls, simple wooden beams and terraces that open onto olive and almond groves. For me the charm comes from the blend of old and new. The hosts have renovated carefully: you sense the age of the house while heating, air conditioning and Wi‑Fi work reliably. There are roughly a dozen rooms, from cozy doubles with stone walls to maisonette suites for families.

Mornings get going here: a buffet with fresh bread, homemade jam and juices. Eggs are made to order and the coffee is strong enough to start the day. On Wednesdays you quickly notice that the family likes to gather: a concert, film or a small cultural program with a tapas evening where local specialties are offered.
The location is practical: short drives to beaches such as Palmanova or Costa de la Calma, golf courses nearby, and Palma is reached in around 20 minutes. For walkers, small paths start right at the door — ideal for a pre-breakfast stroll. I like the hotel mainly for its calm, personal attention and the simple, well-prepared evening meals. It is not a place for big luxury shows, but for people seeking an authentic finca experience.
Rooms & Suites – What to expect
The rooms at Can Estades are varied without being excessive. There are simple double rooms, some with balconies, a junior suite with a kitchenette and larger suites with separate living areas. You can tell each room is individually furnished: an antique piece here, modern lamps there. The bathrooms are generous, often with bold tiles and good showers — not overly luxurious, but clean and functional.
I find the maisonette suite especially practical for families: two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a small kitchen allow for longer stays without relying on a restaurant. For couples, rooms with a terrace or balcony are lovely; morning coffee outside with birdsong is a small luxury. A small note: the rooms are kept in a traditional style, so don't expect ultra-modern glossy design. If you are sensitive to noise, ask when booking for a room at the rear of the house — the street is quiet, but some rooms face the small village.
Amenities: air conditioning/heating, minibar, safe and Wi‑Fi are available. Bed linen and towels are carefully arranged, and the hosts respond quickly to requests (extra pillow, early breakfast). For me the overall package is coherent: solid, warm and practical — ideal for guests who want atmosphere and comfort in the right measure.
Activities around the finca – From hiking to tapas
Can Estades is a good base if you want to combine island and nature. You can take short walks along country tracks directly from the house; in a few minutes you are in a landscape of olive and almond trees. For longer tours the Serra de Tramuntana is recommended: well-known hiking routes are about 20–30 minutes by car.
For beach days, Palmanova, Cala Fornells and Costa de la Calma are popular options — family-friendly and with water sports offers. If you are after culture, Palma is about 20 minutes away: the cathedral, the old quarter and numerous tapas bars are worth an evening stroll.
Active travelers will find several golf courses and riding stables nearby. I tried a bike route with friends that goes through small villages — it is hilly, so e-bikes or good fitness are recommended. For families, birdwatching and short picnics under cypress trees are a relaxed alternative.
My tip: ask at reception for current recommendations — hosts often know the best lesser-known spots for sunsets, local markets or private olive oil tastings. That's how you discover Mallorca beyond the usual postcard views.
Practical information & arrival
Arrival: From Palma airport it takes about 25–30 minutes by car (depending on traffic). The access roads are generally good; narrower country roads are typical for finca areas — please drive slowly and watch signs. Parking is available at the property.
Check-in/Check-out: Late check-ins are usually possible if arranged in advance; check-in from 15:00, check-out typically at 11:00. For early arrivals it can be useful to leave luggage and explore the surroundings on foot.
Practical tips: Bring a light jacket for evenings outside the high summer months, and sturdy shoes for walks. If you have special dietary needs, indicate this when booking — breakfast is flexible and the hosts try to accommodate requests.
Reservations: Evening tapas or buffet offers are popular; it is recommended to reserve early, especially in the shoulder season when communal evenings are organized. Contact is possible by email and phone; English and German are usually spoken.
For me, Can Estades is ideal as an uncomplicated, relaxed base in Mallorca: close enough to Palma, quiet enough for true rest.
