La Bóveda – Tapas-Klassiker in La Lonja
I like places that feel like they have always been part of the neighborhood. La Bóveda, tucked into the small lane of La Lonja, is exactly that kind of place: no frills, lots of character and an atmosphere that quickly becomes contagious. The tables at the counter are perfect if you want to watch the swift service — the waitstaff have the performance almost down to a science. In the back you sit in a low, vaulted room that feels like a cellar and is surprisingly cosy, especially on cool evenings. The menu features Mallorcan-Spanish classics: thick, flavourful Jamón ibérico, pa amb oli with sun-ripened tomatoes, crispy croquetas, patatas bravas with a smoky sauce and the small, slightly bitter Pimientos de Padrón (one of them can sometimes be surprisingly hot). Portions are generous and the wine list highlights local bottles. I like to come around 1 pm at lunchtime when the sun pours down the alleys and the bustle outside is at its peak. Booking helps on weekends, but sometimes the crowded charm is exactly what you’re after.

La Bóveda – classic tapas in La Lonja

La Bóveda sits on Carrer Botería, not far from the cathedral, and is one of the neighbourhood staples in La Lonja. Inside, rustic simplicity meets a lively serving team: the waiters keep changing places, joke with each other and recommend plates fresh from the kitchen. Start with Jamón ibérico — thinly sliced, nutty and salty as it should be. Pa amb oli with grated tomatoes is perfect as a side, the croquetas are crispy on the outside and creamy inside. For seafood lovers: gambas al ajillo with a lovely garlic aroma. The bar at the front is my favourite spot because you get the best view of the hustle and the wooden barrels used as standing tables. Despite the touristy location, La Bóveda doesn't feel like a trap; prices are fair, portions are real and the service is quick. Opening hours are convenient for spontaneous lunch or relaxed dinner, and on sunny days the atmosphere is incomparable.

Tapas & typical dishes you should try

La Bóveda offers the Mallorcan-Spanish classics you expect: Jamón ibérico, pa amb oli, croquetas and patatas bravas. The croquetas are crisp outside and velvety inside; the patatas bravas come with a smoky sauce that lifts the dish. If you like seafood, order the gambas al ajillo — garlicky and satisfying. The staff are happy to recommend plates and portions are generous, making it easy to share a variety of dishes.

La Lonja – why this neighbourhood invites you to linger

La Lonja is one of Palma's most charming corners: narrow lanes, historic facades and a mix of small shops, galleries and eateries. A stroll here pairs perfectly with a tapas stop. After eating, it's worth wandering to the cathedral or enjoying a coffee on one of the narrow squares. In the evening the area comes alive, street lamps cast a warm glow and the atmosphere becomes louder and more festive. La Bóveda fits perfectly into this picture — a place where you don't want to rush.

Practical tips for your visit

Book on weekends, especially in high season, or come between 13:00–14:00 for lunch when it's lively but not overcrowded. Bar seats are ideal for solo visitors or if you want to see the waitstaff in action. If you have allergies: ask about ingredients directly — the kitchen is communicative. You can usually pay cash or card; both are accepted. One personal tip: take your time, share plates and enjoy a glass of local wine — tapas are about conversation and sharing, not rushing through a meal.
