Die Kunst der Aromen in La Residencia — Zwei Abende mit Spitzenköchen
La Residencia in Deià is making headlines again in early October — this time with a two-day programme bringing together chefs from several countries. On the first evening there will be a strictly limited menu in the restaurant El Olivo, put together by Pablo Aranda together with invited starred chefs. One evening later the hotel gardens will be transformed into a lively festival with live cooking stations, music and regional producers. What I like about it: it isn’t a stiff gala dinner but rather a meeting place for the curious who appreciate good produce and honest technique. The Tramuntana as a backdrop makes the walk before dinner part of the evening — especially when the sun slowly disappears behind the mountains. For guests who are travelling in: book early, stay in the village or the hotel and pack a comfortable pair of shoes. The drink selection and optional wine pairings complement the dishes; people with allergies usually have alternatives if this is noted when booking.

Stars Dinner at El Olivo — October 3

The first evening, the so-called Stars Dinner, is for me the actual highlight: a strictly limited tasting menu in the historic dining room of El Olivo, starting at 20:00. Chef Pablo Aranda leads the evening while guests sample dishes created by international and Spanish top chefs. The programme features small, precisely composed courses — from a clear fish starter with Mediterranean herbs to intense, reduced meat creations and a series of surprising intermediate courses. The menu is priced at around €220 without wine; with wine pairings you’re closer to €360. Pairings are carefully chosen: from local whites to more structured reds, depending on the course. Practical notes: arrive about 30 minutes early, the seating plan is tight and agreeably intimate. The atmosphere is festive but not overly formal — jeans with a shirt fit here as well as a casual dress. Those with special diets should mention this when booking; the team is generally flexible. Parking in the village is limited; many guests park at the viewpoint above the village and walk down the short distance. Tip: if possible, take a room at the hotel — that avoids the drive home and lets the evening end in a truly relaxed way. Reservations are made via the hotel website; early booking is strongly recommended as places are scarce.

Culinary Garden Festival — October 4

Practical notes: arrive about 30 minutes early, the seating plan is tight and pleasantly intimate. The atmosphere is festive but not overly formal — jeans with a shirt work as well as a relaxed dress. Those with special diets should notify this when booking; the team usually responds flexibly. Parking in the village is limited; many guests park at the viewpoint above the village and walk down the short distance. Tip: if possible, book a room in the hotel — that removes the return journey and the evening can end in a truly relaxed way. Reservations are via the hotel website; early booking is strongly recommended as places are scarce.

Booking and Arrival

Reservations are made online; many combine the event with an overnight stay at the hotel. Arrival by car via the MA-10, parking is limited — arriving early saves stress. Inform the team about allergies.

Why Deià?

Deià is small, picturesque and still relaxed. The mountain backdrop adds to the atmosphere: after dinner take a walk through the alleys, have an espresso at the bar and let the evening wind down slowly.
