I admit Magaluf doesn’t have the reputation of a gourmet paradise. Still, the area keeps surprising me: fine sandy beaches, terraces with sea views and new kitchens that dare to try different things. For a few years now there have been not only all-night pubs but also stylish beach clubs and a compact food court at Momentum Plaza. You’ll find sushi next to tapas, Peruvian street food next to classic fish & chips — and yes, sometimes surprisingly good ceviche. My recommendation: go to the beach during the day, have an aperitif later on a hotel terrace and for dinner look for one of the quieter spots away from the main street. In spring and autumn the temperatures are perfect; in high summer it’s worth arriving early (reservation recommended). A small tip: ask for the catch of the day or whether there is a small off-menu plate to share. That feels authentic — and often tastes better.
Nikki Beach Mallorca – The reliable beach choice
Nikki Beach is the familiar face on the promenade: big sunbeds, DJ music and a menu with worldwide influences. I like that you can find both light sushi creations and heartier grill dishes here. Sundays often feature brunch with live music, evenings bring Mediterranean fusion dishes. Prices are on the higher side, but for a special evening with a sea view it’s worth it. Tip: reserve a table at the side, not right under the DJ stand, if you want to talk. Sunsets are especially beautiful here in spring.
Momentum Plaza Food Court – Multiculturalism in a compact space
Momentum Plaza’s food court gathers a variety of stalls in a small area: sushi, burgers, Peruvian street food and more. It’s a good place if you want variety and a casual atmosphere. Portions and prices vary, so it’s worth checking a few stalls before you decide. In high season it can get busy at peak times, but you’ll often find something for every taste and budget.
Folies Calviá – Balinese ease & international cuisine
Folies is smaller than the big beach clubs but has style: Balinese beds, a relaxed atmosphere and a menu that stretches from Peru to Japan. I like to order dishes to share there — small ceviches, tuna tacos or a spicy curry. The drinks are well mixed, not just for photos. It’s a good choice if you value comfort but don’t need model appearances. Ideal for a relaxed afternoon in the sunshine.
Practical & seasonal tips for visitors
Magaluf is seasonal: many places reduce opening hours in winter. April–June and September–October are the best months: pleasant temperatures, fewer people and many restaurants with fresh menus. Eating early in the evening (around 19:00–20:00) avoids tourist queues, and if you head inland or into the small side streets you often find more authentic dishes and better prices. Warning: parking is scarce on weekends during the high season. My last tip: ask locals about small family-run places — the best paella or an unassuming fish dish often comes from there.
