Warum der Juli auf Mallorca wie ein endloser Sommer ist
July in Mallorca is what locals half-jokingly, half contentedly call 'high summer mode': getting up early, a slow midday break and balmy nights. The sun is up early (often already around 6:10) and stays until after 9:00–9:15 PM. During the day the thermometer easily climbs into the 30s, but the lower humidity often makes it more tolerable than expected. The sea is pleasantly warm now, perfect for an early swim before the beaches fill up. My routine: a coffee in Palma around 8 am, a short museum visit or a trip to the market before the midday heat, a siesta (really!) and dinner outdoors in the evening — fish, grilled vegetables, and occasionally ice cream for dessert. July is also festival month: small village festivals, street concerts and occasional food events fill the evenings. Pack sunscreen, a hat and a reusable water bottle. Head early into the Tramuntana or to lesser-known coves if you want to escape the heat. And yes: in these weeks the island lives more in the evening than in the morning.

Weather, daily rhythm & simple rules

In July Mallorca reliably enjoys sun and high daytime temperatures. That means: plan activities in the morning and late evening. The typical order: morning walk, later a city stroll or museum visit (Palma has good air conditioning), siesta between 2 and 5 pm and then head out again when it cools. Wear light, pale clothing, a sun hat and high‑SPF sunscreen. Refilling a water bottle is not a luxury — many cafés offer tap water for free. If a short shower comes, everyone is happy, but you shouldn’t count on it. I find heat easier to manage than changeable weather — clear plans and flexibility help.

Evenings, culture & small festivals

Beaches, coves and where to escape the crowds

Famous coves like Formentor or Cala Millor are crowded in July — still, a visit early in the morning is worth it for the colors and the calm water. If you want peace, look for small rocky access points or arrive earlier than everyone else: Cala Varques or little coves near Port de Sóller are good options outside peak times. Beach clubs are lively: pools by day, DJ sets by night. If you prefer a homelier vibe, try smaller beach bars with local dishes: pa amb oli, grilled sardines and fresh salads. And yes, don’t spend the whole day lying on the towel — island walks in the morning or evening sun show you a different Mallorca.

Day trips: Tramuntana, villages & markets

July is warm, but the Serra de Tramuntana in the morning is a relief: cool air, olive groves and viewpoints without fog. Visit Deià or Valldemossa early; the alleys have golden light and cafés open with fresh ensaimadas. Weekly markets in Sineu or Inca are lively early and full of local produce — ideal for picnic supplies. Plan your return before the hottest hours or stop in a mountain village for a late caña. Fill up early, choose shaded routes and obey parking rules: space is scarce in July, but the tranquility of a village corner is worth the search.
