At the end of November Palma lights up again with strings of lights, palm trees with stars and that special, slightly salty sea air that surprisingly pairs well with roasted almonds. The 2025 Christmas markets mostly run from late November to early January and are spread across squares and promenades – ideal for an evening stroll after work or a family outing on Sunday. My favorite route is to start at Plaza Mayor, then wander up La Rambla and grab hot chocolate with churros along the way. On weekends the stalls fill up quickly, so it's best to come in the morning or late at night when the lights really shine.
Practical tip: many markets accept cards, but small craft stalls welcome cash. At Pueblo Español be sure to check tickets in advance – there are usually shows, mulled wine included, and a noticeably more international atmosphere than the inner-city markets. For families, Puerto Portals and Port Adriano are worth a visit because of ice rinks and children's attractions. And yes: the Three Kings are a big finale here in early January – don't miss it if you stay longer.
Plaza Mayor – Classic stalls and nativity figures
Plaza Mayor is my first stop when I'm looking for handmade gift ideas. The small huts offer traditional crafts, candles, nativity figures and often wooden toys that still have a handcrafted feel. In the evenings there's a relaxed atmosphere: families stroll, a vendor advises on the size of nativity figures, and the sellers often have surprising stories about their pieces. Opening hours usually run throughout the day into the early evening; Saturdays are noticeably busier. Tip: come early if you want to browse in peace, and pack a thermos with a warm drink for little children.
Plaza España & Intermodal Station Park – Christmas tree and design stalls

La Rambla – Lights, hot drinks and people-watching
La Rambla has that classic boulevard atmosphere: strings of lights between the trees, jewelry stalls and small food stands selling hot cocoa and churros. I often sit on a bench, watch the passersby and try one of the local nougat varieties. The market stalls are ideal for last-minute gifts and pretty souvenirs. The avenue is especially beautiful in the evening but expect crowds – mornings or weekdays are more relaxed.
Pueblo Español – Tickets, shows and international market stalls
Pueblo Español feels different: a small model village with stages, lights and often live programs. Here you'll find market stalls, regional specialties and sometimes free entry for children. Usually you need a ticket (often including a hot drink), and I recommend buying in advance because evening performances are popular. For families, the program is a bonus – small shows, Santa appearances and special workshops for children. Ideal for a whole evening of food, entertainment and the feeling of seeing more than just market stalls.
