If you've just moved in or want to refresh your living style in Mallorca, there are a handful of shops you should definitely visit. I often travel from Palma to the southwest and have learned: the selection here is surprisingly good — you can find everything from massive oak dining tables to weatherproof lounge sets for the terrace. Plan half a day, especially if you're between Santa Ponsa and Portals Nous — many showrooms are generous, with whole room setups that invite lingering. Practical tip: bring measurements and a photo of the room; some shops offer immediate 3D planning or fabric samples to take away. In spring and autumn workshops are less crowded and delivery times are shorter. If you want handmade or custom pieces, a short conversation with the owner often brings more than ten hours on the internet. In Palma itself you'll find smaller, design-oriented ateliers; outside the city there are large warehouses with fast delivery. And yes: haggling is possible, but stay polite — many are family businesses with a passion for good craftsmanship.
Knox Home Store (Santa Ponsa)
Knox is one of those places where you only realize three hours later how many cushions you suddenly want. The large showroom near Polígono Son Bugadelles is ideal if you're looking for big, modern sofas, dining sets and patio furniture. Over more than 1,000 m² there are whole living scenes: living rooms with rugs, dining areas with solid wood or ceramic tables and well-stocked textile departments. What I like: when an item is in stock they often deliver the next day and also offer an assembly service — great when you've just moved in. The design department gives individual advice on fabric choices, has sample books and can make curtains or custom upholstery on request. A tip from me: go in the morning on a weekday, then the team is more relaxed and will take time for custom work. For outdoor furniture I recommend keeping the cushions in a shed so they don't immediately fade from sun and salt — that's what an advisor once told me. Prices are mid to upper range, but quality and service often justify the price, especially for more complex projects.

The Big Table Studio (Palma)
The Big Table Studio is a shop you visit if you really want to invest in a piece of furniture that will last for generations. Marc, the founder, has a fine sense for wood — the tables are heavy, honest pieces made of oak or teak, often with visible grain and robust legs that work brilliantly with chairs from different designer lines. Especially nice: when you buy, delivery is accompanied by a small ritual — they plant a tree for every table. The studio character means you can influence material, finish and dimensions; there's the option to view the piece in the atelier before it is finally treated. This suits you if you want a dining room that stands up to family meals. Prices are rather high, but if you prioritize sustainability and durability, it's a sensible investment. Best to go in the late afternoon, meet Marc or someone from the team and take your time to feel the top — wood tells a lot about origin and processing. Practical tip: ask for care instructions and for a local carpenter in case something needs reworking.
Galería Barceló (Santanyí)
Galería Barceló in Santanyí feels like a treasure chest: antiques, unusual fabrics, handcrafted furniture and decorative finds from around the world. Unlike the big showrooms, this shop follows the motto 'pieces with character' — which makes it great if you're looking for a special lamp, a vintage sideboard or a rug with a story. The owner advises personally and also offers custom work; found pieces are often slightly restored or reupholstered. If you like a rustic finca look or an eclectic mix of old and new, this is the right stop. Practical: Santanyí is also a lovely day trip — combine the shop visit with the market (Wednesdays) and lunch in a local bistro. Prices vary widely, from affordable side tables to high-quality antique cabinets; haggling is normal but polite. My tip: if you see something beautiful, don't wait too long — real rarities go quickly. And bring small change or a tape measure so you can decide on the spot.
