Rossi Interiors – Zürcher Design mit mallorquinischem Herz
I remember the first conversation with Eveline and Piero well: relaxed, curious and with a clear sense of proportion. They are Swiss, worked for years in Zurich and nevertheless bring a cosmopolitan outlook that can be felt in every one of their projects. A few years ago they took over a small casita in Santa Ponsa and completely rebuilt it from the ground up with local craftsmen – stone, rough plaster edges and warm wooden beams combined with clean, modern furniture. What I like about them is the sense of when a room needs personality and when it simply needs to function. The two run two showrooms in Zurich; one of them is even their own apartment – a living shop window. On Mallorca they work from the studio in Santa Ponsa and you quickly notice: their designs are not aimed at a clear trademark, but arise from the character of the clients. In this profile I describe how they approach projects, what defines their regular clients, which materials work particularly well on the island and why they hope to one day design a small boutique hotel. Plus: my best pragmatic tips if you are currently planning.

The duo: Eveline & Piero Rossi

Eveline and Piero are a partnership you can easily imagine: she has a fine sensitivity for color and atmosphere, he brings an architect’s eye for proportions and technical details. Both come from Switzerland; Eveline has family ties to England and studied in Cambridge, Piero completed his architecture studies in Zurich and spent a year of study in Paris. This mix of academic background, travel and practical experience is reflected in their working method: internationally inspired, locally rooted. About four years ago they came to Mallorca for the first time and decided to spend more time here. The small casita in Santa Ponsa, which they bought three years ago, is their laboratory. They gutted the house with local craftsmen – rustic floors, exposed walls, custom-built fitted cupboards and a new open kitchen. Details like handwoven linen curtains, tiles with a slightly used look and carefully chosen lighting create the balance between modern comfort and island charm. Their Zurich showrooms function like two business cards: one is a classic studio, the other is their private apartment, which at the same time serves as an inspiration space for clients. On Mallorca they work from Santa Ponsa – you’ll usually find them among material samples, schedules and an espresso. Their clients are often professionally busy and know exactly what they want, but have no time for implementation. Rossi Interiors organizes everything – from offering local carpenters to the final installation – and delivers on moving-in day. The result is personal, understated and yet with a small luxurious touch.
