I have known Son Moragues for years as that quieter corner of the Tramuntana, where olive trees are older than some houses. Over recent years the finca has become a small, very Mallorcan label: SONMO. What appeals to me is the mix of land and craft — olive oil remains the core, but alongside it a wool and a ceramics division have grown, involving local techniques and designers. You can feel that no one here just wants to sell a product; it’s about landscape care, biodiversity and work for the island.
On the finca they have restored orchard meadows, tended abandoned olive groves and integrated sheep flocks that help keep the land open. Recently there is also a small shop in Palma, ideal for gifts, and the project sells sets that work well for hotels and companies. Particularly interesting: in 2025 SONMO launched a CO2 compensation system where companies can buy credits directly from the finca’s regenerative agriculture. So the next time you look for a gift — a heavy ceramic bowl, a wool blanket from the restored loom or a bottle of oil — there is often more inside than a pretty label. There is people, work and a plan to preserve the Tramuntana.
The wool collection: handwoven blankets made from Mallorcan wool
The wool blankets are, for me, SONMO’s most honest product. They are not knitted; they are woven on a restored 19th-century loom in Valldemossa, each runner and blanket produced in small batches. The wool comes from local sheep — including the red Mallorcan breed, long overlooked. SONMO works with the Mallorcan Red Sheep Association to revive an endangered genetic line and the traditional fields linked to it.
On site it smells of wool and wood, and there are those slight irregularities in the weave that immediately mark something as handmade. The tones are muted: ochre, stone, dark olive, sand; patterns are simple, almost Nordic, but with a Mediterranean feel. Sizes range from smaller sofa throws (about 130 x 180 cm) to thick bed blankets; the heavier models are ideal for late winter evenings in a Mallorcan finca. Care instructions: wash gently or, better, use a wool cycle and dry flat — this greatly prolongs life.
To me the wool is not only warm, it also tells the story of the landscape: each blanket has a small map or serial number indicating from which part of the finca the sheep came. Prices reflect the craft, so they are not cheap, but fair; many buyers say a blanket lasts decades. SONMO also offers workshops where you can briefly help at the spinning machine or loom — an unexpectedly beautiful experience if you have the time. For gift lovers: the blankets also come in natural packaging, often with a little loose lavender or a small sample of olive oil.
Ceramics: everyday pieces with a clear formal language

Shop in Palma: Carrer de Sant Jaume 23A
The small shop in Palma is a good address if you want a quick impression. The location is central, a quiet corner in the old town; inside there are bright shelves, stackable boxes and a reduced presentation. I was there on a Wednesday morning: it smelled faintly of wax and freshly opened jute sacks, and a staff member explained the olive varieties.
Here you’ll find the full product family: olive oil in different vintages, jams, gin, ceramics and selected wool blankets. The atmosphere is relaxed — not trying to be trendy, rather careful. Opening hours change seasonally, often longer in summer; it’s best to call briefly or check the website if you are looking for a specific gift.
Climate protection and carbon offsetting on the finca
In 2025 SONMO launched a CO2 compensation project based on regenerative agriculture. Unlike classic afforestation projects, this focuses on caring for existing olive groves, rebuilding soil and measures that strengthen the ecosystem. Companies can buy credits that flow directly into work such as replanting terraces, renaturalization and more extensive grazing.
The special thing: the credits are generated locally and made visible — you can see exactly in which grove an action took place. For the island economy this means jobs and long-term care, not just a one-off offset. If you, as a tourist or business traveler, want to participate, small amounts are often enough; the finca also offers reporting and guided visits so you can experience the difference on site.
