I've done TaPalma several times, and honestly: it's the best excuse to neglect Palma in the evening and instead stroll through neighborhoods like Santa Catalina or the Paseo Marítimo. The November edition traditionally runs in the first week of November (usually Nov 5–9), with a competition often held a bit earlier in the month at the Palau de Congressos. More than fifty venues take part — small bars, bodegas and modern tapas spots — and all offer special, budget-friendly tapas. The idea is simple: go out with a few friends, order a glass of wine or a beer, try a small specialty and move on. Some dishes are little works of art, others are classic Mallorcan fare with sobrasada, just-caught fish or cheese from the island. I recommend planning the evening leisurely, aiming for at least three stops and drinking water in between. If you're visiting in November, take a light jacket — evenings can be cool, but the atmosphere is warm and loud. Bring good shoes, open a maps app and keep a small amount of cash: many places offer the festival tapas at clear prices, often under €6–8.
The TaPalma Route: How it Works
TaPalma isn't a closed show but an invitation to stroll. The organizers publish a list of participating bars and their special tapas; in recent years there have been over 50 addresses. My tip: pick 4–6 places in one or two neighborhoods instead of dashing across the whole city. Starting around 7:00 pm works well — many kitchens are most active in the evening, the atmosphere is relaxed, and Santa Catalina quickly gets lively. Some bars enter competition dishes, others focus on traditional tapas. If you like photographing food: small plates, attractive presentations and blossoming garnishes are everywhere. And yes, ask about local wines: there are often small bottles or glass options that pair perfectly with several tapas.

Which Tapas to Try? My Favorites
On such an evening I like to try a mix of classics and surprises: croquetas with aioli, small sea bream fillets, sobrasada on toasted bread, empanadillas with vegetable filling and Manchego with fig jam. A special tip: look for tapas made with local products like sobrasada, locally caught fish or cheese from Tramuntana farmers. To drink, light white wines or a glass of Manto Negro (red) go well — and sometimes a cold Estrella beer is just right between two tapas stops. Tell the bartender that you're trying several small dishes; they often recommend a good order.
Practical Tips: Planning, Budget, Getting There
Plan on about €3–5 per tapas stop; some special tapas cost €5–8. With drinks, a realistic per-person estimate is €20–40 depending on how big the evening gets. Public transport and short taxis help when your feet are tired; parking in the old town is scarce. Many locals prefer to bar-hop on foot — it's part of the fun. If you're out with children, check in advance which bars are family-friendly. And a little hack: start early enough so you don't miss freshly prepared tapas that often come straight from the kitchen.
