The holidays in Mallorca this year again have that special mix of warm lights, fresh sea air and prettily set tables. Whether you want to celebrate with family, as a couple or with colleagues: many hotels and restaurants offer set festive menus, special packages and small events. My tip: book early – especially for Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve.
Traditional Mallorcan food increasingly meets modern interpretations: duck breast with oranges, lombarda (red cabbage) with chestnuts or a modern fish course with local herbs are commonly found. For New Year's Eve the range is large: from formal galas with live music to more relaxed menus in family-run restaurants. If you seek peace, choose a country hotel in the Serra de Tramuntana; for lively dining and people-watching go to Palma or Puerto Portals. I've selected places that locals like but also welcome guests warmly — and included a few notes on how to plan the evening more relaxed.
El Llorenç & URBÀ – hotel package and Christmas dinner
El Llorenç has established itself as a small, refined hotel with a relaxed atmosphere. Those who spend Christmas Eve there can often book an overnight package with access to the Ç Wellness Studio and an à-la-carte breakfast. The URBÀ restaurant serves a multi-course festive menu with local products — think Mallorcan olives, smoked fish and winter desserts with almonds. Small practical note: the shuttle service to Palma is sometimes limited, so book a taxi in advance. I was there once on a cold December evening: dimmed lights, candles on the tables and a very friendly service team that accommodated families with small children without any problems.

Grand Hotel Son Net – wine, Tramuntana & Gatsby gala
This hotel in the mountains combines a calm, rural atmosphere with festive elegance. In addition to special Christmas dinners they often offer wine tastings, short hikes in the Tramuntana and a glamorous Great Gatsby New Year's Eve with live band and menu. Ideal if you want to spend the turn of the year stylishly but not over the top. Small insider tip: the terrace with a view of the valley is clear and fresh in winter — bring a jacket, but the starry sky is fantastic.
Palma and beyond – restaurants for every taste
In Palma you'll find lots of options: from traditional taperías with family menus to modern restaurants offering festive tasting menus. Outside Palma, country restaurants with large tables for multiple generations are worthwhile. My advice: ask for a separate room if you're coming with a large group, and check the menu composition (vegetarian alternatives are not a given everywhere). For New Year's Eve: reserve at least three weeks in advance, especially if you plan to celebrate in Puerto Portals or Palma's shopping district.
