When the city quiets down in December, Palma feels so much nicer — cooler breezes, candlelight and restaurants that make an effort. If you want to spend Christmas differently than having fondue at home, URBÀ at the Hotel El Llorenç Parc de la Mar offers a lovely alternative. The team serves a seasonal, multi-course menu with small, surprising touches: local products, a hint of Asia here and there, and desserts that are made for sharing (or secretly eating alone). I visited on an early evening, sat quietly with a view of the cathedral and found the pace of the courses pleasantly relaxed — good if you come with older parents or easygoing friends.
The menu is available both on Christmas Eve (dinner) and on December 25 (lunch); reservations are recommended, Palma tends to fill up for the holidays. If you want the full experience, take the overnight package: being able to reach the hotel bed right after dessert is worth its weight in gold in winter.
URBÀ Restaurant at El Llorenç Parc de la Mar
URBÀ sits in the heart of the elegant El Llorenç Parc de la Mar, just a few steps from Plaça de Llorenç Villalonga. The room is understatedly chic, not flashy — subdued lighting, a few houseplants and tables with plenty of space between them. The Christmas menu I tried starts with small snacks that immediately whet the appetite: a hearty take on beef tartare, a fried bite with an intense fish filling and a surprisingly spicy pumpkin parcel with cheese. For starters they stick to familiar flavours but with small twists: grilled artichokes with egg and truffle, and a delicate seafood dish with an Asian-inspired broth that isn’t too spicy.
The fish course was light, with a classic butter sauce and a touch of caviar for a festive note; the meat course leans into Mallorcan roots — tender suckling pig with a slightly sweet, tangy glaze. For dessert there is a Christmas baked offering to be enjoyed with a spoon: smooth, aromatic and not overly sweet. Small petit fours close the menu; a local ensaïmada reappears, this time creatively filled. Price-wise the menu is moderate for Palma: around €105 per person, drinks not included. Food, service and atmosphere fit well together; for guests after a warm, well-thought festive meal, URBÀ is a solid choice. Address: Plaça de Llorenç Villalonga, Centre, 07001 Palma.
