Tragic discovery in Son Oliva: teenage girl found dead in apartment
Early this morning in Son Oliva, something happened that will keep the neighborhood talking for a long time. Around 3:10 a.m., one of the residents of a multi-unit building on Calle Eusebio Estada is said to have found a young woman without signs of life and immediately called emergency number 112. An ambulance and several patrols from the National Police arrived shortly after; for the girl, there was no help in time.
Investigations on site, forensics in progress
At the scene, criminal investigators and forensics teams worked for several hours. I later was in the area; it smelled of wet asphalt, the street lamps flickered, and a few neighbors stood in jackets, whispering. Officers blocked access to the apartment while in the hallway a police officer noted entries and exits. Official information is sparse: The National Police unit has taken over the investigations; exact circumstances were not released at first.
A young man who was said to have been in the apartment at the same time was questioned by the police. That can happen quickly in such cases and does not automatically mean someone is a suspect. Authorities announced an autopsy to determine the cause of death. When exactly the result will be available remained open, usually it takes a few days.
Neighbors react in shock
The residents appear visibly shaken. An elderly woman from the building told me in passing that she had sometimes seen the girl nearby, 'always with headphones, quiet.' Such statements do not help, but they do not reassure anyone either. Authorities ask not to spread speculation and not to hinder the investigators' work.
It is a quiet day in Son Oliva, yet behind closed doors intensive investigations are underway. As soon as the police or public prosecutor's office release more information, it will be published. Until then there is much room for questions and mourning, especially for the girl's family and friends.
