For the 36th time, golfers gathered at Club de Golf Alcanada — perfect weather, good vibes, and a grand prize you won't forget.
A Day on Alcanada: Lots of laughter, a few birdies, and a big raffle
Yesterday at 9:00 a.m., the golf carts rolled off from Club de Golf Alcanada. The sun was already warm in a clear sky, a fresh northwest breeze swept over the holes. This is what they call perfect golf weather here on the island – not too hot, not too windy. About 120 participants had gathered; some were here for the first time, others have been coming for years.
It quickly became clear: this is not a glossy, professionally polished tournament, but a gathering with heart. Between the first tee and the 18th green you could hear applause several times, a few ironic comments, and again and again a friendly \"Well played!\". On the club terrace later there was the aroma of coffee, cold drinks, and enough sandwiches to supply a small flotilla.
The athletic winners
Gross winner of the day was Judith Freifrau von Gumppenberg. Her round was clean, calm and with a few precise putts. \"I just got lucky with the putts today,\" she said laughing as she accepted her trophy. Next to her many net winners rejoiced over nice prizes donated by local partners and supporters.
Raffle and grand prize
The highlight after the tournament: the raffle. Main sponsor Hapag-Lloyd Cruises ensured the big coup -- a cruise aboard the MS Europa 2 from Curaçao to New York. The lucky winner is Alun Bowen. When his name was drawn there was a brief scramble, then cheers. He looked still a bit overwhelmed: \"This is simply unbelievable, I did not expect this at all.\"
Organizationally, everything ran smoothly: volunteers, club staff, and sponsors such as Engel & Völkers were visibly in action. The mood was relaxed, the fundraising pot was filling for a good cause, and in the end many stayed for a glass at sunset.
For many participants, the Inselradio Golf Trophy has long been a fixed date in the calendar. You meet acquaintances, tell the same anecdotes as last year, and already plan the next tee shots. If you weren't here this year: mark the date for next time. Alcanada remains a place where golf and community fit well together.
