Fatal collision in Son Castelló: Motorcyclist dies
It was one of those cool, foggy mornings when you prefer to drive a little slower on the way to work. Around 6 a.m., near the roundabout by the MOT station in the Son Castelló industrial area, a serious accident occurred: a motorcycle crashed head-on into a car. The motorcycle rider died at the scene.
Emergency services and initial measures
Multiple callers alerted the emergency services. Within minutes three ambulances from service 061, the Palma fire brigade and units of the national and local police were on site. Paramedics attempted to treat the injured, but all efforts were unsuccessful — the man was pronounced dead.
The motorcycle was apparently dragged several meters before both vehicles came to a stop. Flames then burst from the wreckage. A pungent smell of petrol and burnt material could be detected. Several young coworkers from nearby businesses stopped; some were still on the phone, others fetched blankets or water — the scene felt torn and rushed.
Flight of the occupants and investigation
Witnesses report that the people who were in the car exited the vehicle and then fled on foot. Police confirmed that the occupants did not remain at the scene after the crash. Local police investigators have begun the search; traces are being collected and surveillance footage from the area is being reviewed.
Initial indications suggest the motorcyclist may have been driving the wrong way around the roundabout. However, this is only one of several lines of inquiry. The investigation into the exact sequence of events is ongoing. Police ask witnesses who saw the incident or who can provide information about the fleeing persons to come forward.
People at the scene
An employee of a nearby company said the impact noise made several locks vibrate. Another resident reported seeing, at about 6:05 a.m., a person in a dark coat running away. Such accounts are typical for chaotic morning hours — contradictory yet important for the investigation.
A sad start to the day for Son Castelló. Our thoughts are with the family of the deceased.
