In Consell, a yellow postal delivery van was stolen in broad daylight while a delivery worker was delivering a package. The woman was bumped, and a manhunt is underway.
Delivery van with packages stolen in Consell – delivery worker attacked
Late in the morning there was a brief stir in Consell's old town: around 11:20 a.m., an as-yet-unknown person seized a yellow-painted postal delivery van and drove off with a large stack of packages. The delivery worker was, according to residents, only at the house for a few moments to hand over a shipment — enough time, as it turned out.
Several neighbors saw the woman resist the theft. She shouted and tried to grab the key, says an elderly woman standing at the corner of Carrer Major. The perpetrator pushed the employee aside, according to witnesses. The woman was not seriously injured but visibly shaken. Paramedics examined her briefly on the spot.
Witnesses, police and search
The local police arrived promptly and coordinated the search with the Guardia Civil. Officers questioned residents and reviewed footage from home cameras in the vicinity. A witness described the driver as about 30 to 40 years old, slim, wearing a dark jacket and short hair; he fled toward Binissalem. Whether that is true remains to be seen by investigators.
What was missing? Mainly the packages: Several shipments from the rear of the van are missing, some with return addresses from the island's interior. It seems to the offender that the aim was less the vehicle itself and more the contents — easy to sell, hard to recover.
What the authorities say
The police are now examining whether this was a planned theft or an opportunistic act. Legally, the suspect faces charges of theft and assault if the accusations are confirmed. Residents hope for quick clarity: We haven't seen anything like this here in a long time, says a shopkeeper who lives directly opposite.
A note to all delivery workers: Even if handovers in villages feel quick — never leave vehicles unattended, do not leave keys in the vehicle. It sounds like old advice, but today it is again relevant.
Anyone who saw something or can provide information is asked to contact the local police station. Investigations continue, and the residents of Consell remain on alert — a normally peaceful place that is now trying to reorient itself.
