New premium connection: Etihad to start three weekly direct flights between Abu Dhabi and Palma in summer 2026—with the modern A321LR, First-Class suites, and sleep seats in Business.

New connection brings luxury travelers directly to Palma

If you value comfort during the upcoming summer holidays, you can look forward: Etihad plans from mid-June 2026 a new direct connection between Abu Dhabi (AUH) and Palma de Mallorca (PMI). Three flights per week are planned to operate the route, creating a direct link from the Middle East to the island that is still relatively rare.

What to expect on board

The plan is to use the Airbus A321LR. Not a giant, but efficient and with surprisingly a lot of comfort. First-Class suites will be offered, as well as seats in the Business Class that can be converted into a flat bed. For long-haul travelers — or people who want to arrive at night — this is a real plus.

I was at the airport last week around 4:00 PM; the cafés in the terminal were well filled, and the staff seemed prepared. A new premium route means increased demand for the local hotel industry and taxi drivers, especially from markets that previously had to make connections in Europe or at the Gulf.

What this could mean for Mallorca

From the island's perspective, this means more guests from the Middle East and parts of Asia who specifically target Palma. Luxury accommodations, boutique hotels and upscale restaurants could see growth. At the same time, more premium traffic often also means stricter checks at check-in and crowded parking at the airport. I remember a Friday evening in August: long lines at the car rental desk, but the mood remained relaxed — people are looking forward to vacation.

Practical tip: Travelers should check their flight times and visa requirements early. Especially for international connections, rules change more often than the weather on the promenade.

In a nutshell

From mid-June 2026: three weekly connections Abu Dhabi–Palma with A321LR, First-Class suites and reconfigurable Business seats. For the island a new opportunity to welcome guests from growth markets directly. For locals: it may get busier — but also more interesting.

I will keep an eye on the departures and report back when the first flight numbers and times are confirmed. Until then: pack a light jacket for the plane and look forward to new faces at the airport.
