Gabrielle is weakening, but for the weekend it will bring warm, humid air, scattered thunderstorms, and breezy gustsâespecially in the eastern part of the island.
Warm, humid weekend with showers and strong gusts
If youâre planning to be outdoors this weekend: pack a light jacket and, just in case, bring an umbrella. The former hurricane Gabrielle has weakened and moved north, but as a low-pressure system it continues to influence Mallorca's weather. Aemet expects warm air masses to push in â meaning daytime values significantly milder, and little cooling at night.
Temperatures and nights
On Saturday and Sunday, high temperatures of between 25 and 29 degrees are expected in many places. It sounds pleasant but is somewhat warm for late September. In some areas, especially in sheltered valleys and coastal towns, tropical nights are possible: the temperature does not drop below 20 °C. For those who jog early or take the dog for a six o'clock walk on the beach â youâll feel the heat already in the morning.
Showers, thunderstorms and wind
Between brief rain showers and longer downpours, anything is possible. Especially in the east of the island, clouds can pass with stronger thunderstorms; there are more frequent reports of local heavy rain there than elsewhere. The wind picks up especially near the sea, with gusty phases that can be uncomfortable if you park under pine trees.
Outlook for the week
The situation remains unsettled into Monday. Only from Tuesday is a slight calming anticipated; heavy showers will become less frequent. Those hoping for the classic late-summer spellâthe veranillo de San Miguelâshould not count on it this time: the instability keeps the air humid.
A little tip from the neighborhood: cafĂ©s with covered terraces are filling up again. I ran into a barista at the Mercado this morning who said: "More warmth, more latte." So you can sense that life on the island is picking upâin the truest sense of the phrase.
