Son Banya: The Palm as an Alibi? Why 280 Palms Don't Solve the Problems
Are Ornamental Palms Right for Mallorca?
Ornamental palms may look neat, but in Mallorca they can need more water and maintenance than native plants.
Published: April 22, 2026
Answer
Are ornamental palms a good choice for Mallorca’s climate?
Not always. Some ornamental palms need more water and care than native, drought-tolerant plants, which makes them less practical in a dry Mediterranean climate. In Mallorca, long-term maintenance and water use should be part of any planting decision.
