Severe Weather Alert on Mallorca: Wind, Rain, and a Noticeable Temperature Drop Through the Weekend

For Friday, the weather service has issued a severe weather warning for Mallorca: strong winds, sometimes heavy rain, and rough seas – the sun won't return for now.

Severe weather warning starting Friday – quick summary

The island is preparing for a noticeable weather turn. From Friday morning, coastal sections and exposed areas will be affected: strong east winds with gusts, heavy showers and high waves. If you had planned a boat trip today, better check the timetables beforehand.

What characterises the situation?

Wind: Strong gusts will occur repeatedly, locally peaks of around 70–80 km/h are possible. Especially affected: Paseo Marítimo, Portixol and the eastern cliffs.

Rain: In the morning and early afternoon, heavy showers concentrate – in some places this is enough for puddles and brief floods, especially in narrow streets like Avinguda Joan Miró or Ronda de Dalt, where the water drains poorly.

Sea: The sea state will increase; port authorities could restrict or delay ferry connections. With regard to AlcĂșdia–Palma, one should watch the notices from the shipping companies.

What does this mean for daily life?

In Palma's streets it will become windier and cooler. Temperatures will fall noticeably: along the coast meteorologists expect values around 20–24 °C; in the island interior it can still be warmer during the day, but overall noticeably cooler than in the last days. For excursions in the Tramuntana or along the coast, that means: pack a jacket, wear shoes with grip, and watch for falling branches when parking.

Practical tips from a neighbor

I was at the mole early today and saw cafĂ© owners bringing chairs inside – a good indicator. A few tips that help: secure balcony furniture, park bicycles in wind-protected spots, pull small boats ashore or secure them to shore power. If you’re out with children, avoid seaside promenades in strong winds.

Improvements in sight – and then summer again?

The current phase is not long. By Sunday the service reports rising temperatures again, and by Monday at the latest the heat could return – especially the island interior (places like Santa Maria and Algaida) would then be hotter than the coast. So: a light rain jacket now, sunscreen in a few days.

Stay informed: monitor local warnings, check ferries in advance, and rather adjust plans a bit than get soaked.
