Rainy day in Sóller – what to expect

I spent a quick spell this afternoon at the harbor; the air smelled of damp stone and coffee. On Monday, September 8, a rainy day is forecast for Sóller. The forecasts speak of a high probability of rain — practically certain enough not to leave the umbrella at home.

Temperatures: mild, but fresh

During the day, values range roughly from 24 °C to about 31 °C. In the morning it feels a touch warmer, later in the evening the air will be suited for a light jacket again. In short: not winter, but definitely not beach weather.

Pressure is around 1015 hPa, humidity is moderate at around 48 %. The wind comes from the east (approximately 100°) and blows at only a few meters per second — gusts are possible, but nothing stormy.

What it feels like

The apparent temperature remains a bit higher than the plain measurement – the mix of humidity and mild warmth makes you feel the rain more than you freeze. Still: after sunset it will feel noticeably cooler. So pack a light jacket if you’re planning a stroll at Plaça de la Constitución in the evening.

Practical tips

My tip: have breakfast in one of the cafés on Carrer des Túnels (a hot tip is the small café on the corner where the owners bake croissants in the oven in the morning) and plan short walks. For trips into the Tramuntana mountains you should check the routes — wet rocks are slippery.

Even though rain dominates the day: Sóller has enough charm to enjoy it anyway. A cappuccino, a view of the mountains, and the streets look cleaner after the first shower. Safe travels or pleasant strolls — depending on where you are.
