Triathlete Johann Ackermann has been living in Mallorca for a year. After separating from Jana Azizi, he focuses on sports, nature, and his beloved cats.

Johann Ackermann: An Extreme Athlete with New Goals

Johann Ackermann, a German triathlete and 16-time Ironman finisher, has found a home in Mallorca. Since moving there in July 2024, the 41-year-old has been living and training on the island, which offers him perfect conditions for his demanding lifestyle. Even in winter, Ackermann swims in the open sea – a routine as natural to him as cycling on Mallorca's winding roads.

“Sport is Personal Development”

For Ackermann, triathlon is far more than physical performance. His philosophy is: sport shapes character. He conveys this in his workshops and training camps, which he regularly offers in Mallorca and Germany. The programs cost around 1500 euros per week and provide intensive support and professional structures. “It’s about developing mental strength and surpassing oneself,” he explains.

Setbacks as Part of Life

Ackermann's life has not always been straightforward. After achieving his best time of seven hours and 57 minutes in an Ironman, he had to withdraw from a competition in Mexico due to heat stroke – a lesson in humility. There were also personal changes: in the year following his move to Palma, he separated from TV presenter Jana Azizi. “Our lives have developed differently,” he says soberly.

Despite his allergies, Ackermann shared a home with the couple's two Bengal cats – out of love. Today, the cats have stayed with him, but the chapter with Azizi now belongs to the past.

Enjoying the Simplicity of Life

Privately, Johann prefers clear structures: tapas instead of gourmet cuisine, nature instead of nightlife. In the past, there were more parties; today he seeks clarity and peace – values that have carried him through highs and lows.

Future Plans: Strengthen Mallorca as a Sports Destination

Ackermann's goal is to establish Mallorca as a center for endurance athletes. With a growing German community on the island, he is working to expand running groups and training opportunities. His approach includes not only the athletic aspect but also technical developments such as aerodynamic bicycles or specialized nutritional gels.

“The race begins in the last hour on the asphalt,” emphasizes Ackermann. Those who are not optimally supplied at that time fail at the marathon – a truth from his long career.

More Than a New Beginning

Mallorca is more than just a training place for Johann Ackermann; the island has become his home. With a growing community of sports enthusiasts from Germany, he feels settled here. His focus remains clear: maintain calm, keep growing, and test limits – both physically and mentally.
