On a quiet morning in Son Serra de Marina, two men tried to retrieve a jetski – in the end, a Jeep and a Porsche got stuck in the wet sand and had to be towed.
A simple plan turned into a small beach thriller
Sunday morning, around 9:30 a.m.: The bay of Son Serra de Marina looked calm, the air still salty and cool. What had started as a quick operation with a jetski quickly turned into a spectacle – and a pretty slog for the tow service in the afternoon.
The attempt to save money ended up costly
A man drove a Jeep up to the wet beach to pull his watercraft ashore. Maybe he wanted to bypass the harbor slipway — which costs around 30 euros — or he thought it would go faster. Anyway: The Jeep sank into the soft, damp sand. The front was still on the beach, the rear had already been washed over by the sea. Not a safe place, and above all not a good idea.
Shortly after, a second vehicle was brought in, a larger SUV of the Porsche type. The goal was simple: pull together, get the jetski out, drive back. The plan did not account for the beach surface. The Porsche also lost traction and soon got stuck as well. Passersby gathered, a few children pointed excitedly with their fingers, a woman with a shopping bag laughed and said: 'You don't see that very often.'
Several hours, lots of talk – and then the tow truck
For hours the two men tried to free the vehicles and the jetski. With sticks, shovels and strong pushes – in vain. Only in the early afternoon did a professional tow service arrive and pulled both vehicles out of the sand one after the other. The road was then reopened, the beach gradually returned to normal. Apparently it remained just a case of metal and sand trouble; no injuries.
Conclusion: A quick plan to maybe save a few euros led to more effort – and a lot of laughter from onlookers. For anyone trying it: when the ground is soft, the solution isn't always to bring more horsepower to the beach. Better to use the harbor slip ramp or simply call the tow service before two vehicles and a jetski occupy an entire bay.
I stood about 50 meters away and watched the scene — these are the stories told here by the sea when coffee is served later at the market.
