Unsettled Week in Mallorca: Warning Levels Rise, Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms Persist

The island is in a wet phase: Aemet raises warning levels, roads are flooded, and the heavy rain could continue for days.

Unsettled Weather Persists – Rain and Thunderstorms Dominate the Days

The mood outside is currently rather subdued: rain, wind and thunderstorms are not only a topic for weather updates but for everyone living here. Since the weekend, neighbors from Palma have reported flooded basements; on Passeig Mallorca, puddles had gathered that reminded of small ponds. The national weather authority Aemet has raised the warning levels – and for good reason.

What to Expect

For Monday a yellow warning has been issued; from the afternoon onward, heavy showers and thunderstorms are possible. The forecast extends until midnight. For Tuesday, the orange warning level has already been announced; it is expected to last 24 hours and affects the whole island. In short: floods, water on streets, and sudden lightning cannot be ruled out.

The neighbouring islands are affected as well

Ibiza and Formentera are also in the forecast's sights. The weekend saw more severe flooding there; memories of flooded access routes to the airport are still fresh. If you plan to travel island to island in the coming days, check flights and ferry connections – and plan for patience.

How long will this last?

Aemet expects the active low to slowly move away by Wednesday. Nevertheless, dense clouds and rain will continue: the forecast indicates the island will experience wet spells again into the weekend. Temperatures remain surprisingly mild, daytime around 24–26 °C. No shivering, but wet shoes.

A small glimmer of hope: Thursday afternoon it could become drier temporarily and the sun may shine for a few hours. For many, that's enough to take a moment to breathe — and perhaps hang the wet laundry before the next shower arrives.

Tips for the coming days

Practical advice remains: umbrella, waterproof shoes, avoid parking in depressions, and follow the instructions from police and rescue services during floods. If the road over MA-13 to SĂłller looks like a small river again, the only option is to wait or find a detour. Above all: drive carefully, the roads are slippery.

I spoke on Sunday with a neighbor at Plaça Major; he dryly said: It's like this here in autumn — we know it, but it's still annoying. True. Annoying, but usually not hopeless. We'll stay tuned and report if the situation changes.
