Aemet warns: For Thursday, Mallorca is forecast to have a yellow alert due to strong winds from the west and southwest. Coasts and some inland areas are affected – with gusts and waves up to three meters high.

Yellow Warning: Wind From the West Sweeps Across the Island

Short and to the point: Aemet has issued for Thursday a Yellow alert. The strongest gusts are expected from west to southwest, concentrated in the hours between 6 and 16 o'clock. They speak of gusts up to 70 km/h and coastal waves that can locally reach up to three meters high.

Where it will be most noticeable

In the northwest and west of the island, along the Tramuntana coast, you will feel the wind most clearly. But the southwest, the south coast and the eastern sections are also expected to be affected. If you are in Port d'Andratx or along Palma's Passeig des Born: put on a windproof jacket and secure loose objects. I was yesterday in the bakery on Plaça Catalunya; the shopkeeper shrugged and said that there is a strong draft today.

What to consider at the water

For boaters, anglers and beach walkers, exercise caution: three-meter-high waves are not uncommon with such wind. Bathing is then only for the experienced; beach chairs and lightweight boats should be secured. Also on the promenades, harbor master staff will be watching the mooring lines on days like these.

Possible short-term changes

Weather forecasts are not set in stone. Aemet updates its forecasts regularly — best to check shortly before departure. According to the service, it could already be locally stormy on Wednesday, though without a widespread warning level. From Saturday, the weather is expected to be more humid, with temperatures dropping to around 21–22 °C by Monday.

Practical tips

Whether you live on the island or are visiting: move your bicycle into the garage early in the morning, check balcony plants and lightweight furniture, and do not plan small boat trips for the specified period. For drivers: anticipate gusts from crosswinds, especially on bridges and open stretches.

I take Mallorca's weather seriously, but not panicking. Such days here often bring a bit of drama — loud gusts, spray at the quay, workers with hats. If you want to stay safe, stay indoors or choose sheltered routes. Updates can be found on the official Aemet channels.
