The island got a clear preview of autumn overnight: heavy rain and thunderstorms brought cool mornings, while the day remained unsettled.
Autumn Makes Itself Known: After Rain and Lightning, a Fresh Morning
It's hard to deny: Mallorca remembered autumn briefly and intensely in the night from Sunday to Monday. Around 02:30 a.m. thunder and flashes woke many residents in Son Ferriol and the island's east. Shortly afterwards a band of thunderstorms rolled over Manacor and Campos, bringing heavy but locally confined rains.
The Aemet had warned in advance about strong showers, and those out for a morning stroll could see why: puddles on the Passeig Mallorca, wet asphalt in narrow lanes, and seagulls looking a bit confused — pelicans? No, just the usual gulls.
Where the Rain Fell Most
The eastern part of the island and the inland areas were hardest hit. Residents reported sudden floodwaters on access roads to Sant Llorenç and isolated shower bursts in small rambla beds. In Palma itself, it largely remained short, intense showers — enough that outdoor cafés at 08:00 a.m. still had to dry chairs outside.
Despite the impressive racket of the storms, larger damage was avoided. The fire brigade did not respond in large numbers, and by late morning there were no reports of floods of any significant scale. Relief, albeit tense: the road at Coll d'en Rebassa became temporarily slower to drive, but nothing dramatic.
Looking Ahead
A meteorologist from Aemet explained that the coming days will be cooler: daytime around 22–24 °C, nights down to about 13 °C. For visitors, that means packing a sweater. The second half of the week is forecast to bring milder spells again, with temperatures up to about 26–27 °C, but the weather is not yet stable.
So, if you're strolling markets this morning or planning a coffee on the beach: expect changeable weather. A personal note from experience: on Mallorca the weather is unpredictable but rarely harsh — usually after a shower the sky clears to blue and a light wind, perfect for a stroll along the promenade.
