A surprisingly cool Tuesday morning lured many on Mallorca outside in thicker jackets. Temperatures dropped noticeably, especially in the Tramuntana mountains.
Morning chill surprises the island – jackets instead of t-shirts early Tuesday
This morning I drove along the Passeig Marítim just after 7:15 and initially thought: well, that's refreshing. Moments later the wind swept through the streets of Palma and reminded me that autumn is indeed arriving. Many neighbors who normally stroll to the sea with a coffee suddenly had jackets on. No drama — just a clear sign: nights are getting cooler.
Where it was coldest
The coldest readings, as expected, came from the Serra de Tramuntana. At the Lluc monastery the thermometer dropped overnight to just 3°C. In Son Torrella (Escorca) values were around 5°C. On the plains and in inland towns it was often between 8 and 11°C (Sa Pobla, Sineu, Petra, Campos, Binissalem).
And yes, there are exceptions: in Capdepera the stations reported a pleasant 17°C, and on Cabrera it was around 16°C. Sometimes Mallorca really feels like two islands — a cool, mountainous one and a milder, sheltered one.
What this means for the day
Daytime temperatures can briefly reach up to about 24°C. Sunny intervals are not excluded, at least in the south and around Palma. Still, the cold mornings are a reminder that the transition season is approaching. Anyone walking dogs in the morning or visiting the first market stalls on Plaça del Olivar should consider a light layer.
Looking ahead
The weather forecast announces a shift for the week: a rain front from the Atlantic could bring heavy rain, thunderstorms and a noticeable drop in temperatures. So: sweater at the ready, umbrella maybe too.
One small tip to finish: in the mornings, when the fog still hangs in the valleys, the Ma-10 road toward Sóller is especially pretty — and noticeably colder. A quick espresso at the station in Valldemossa warms you up perfectly.
