Mallorca tightens rules for small rental boats

Starting October 1, boats under 5 m and 15 hp may only be handed over to someone with a boating license. This is meant to raise safety on Mallorca’s waters, but questions remain about rollout and enforcement. Authorities note that roughly 600 of about 3,500 charter permits in the Balearics concern these small vessels. Enforcement is increasing, but practical challenges persist.
