From Horse Night in Alcúdia to handmade woodwork in Alaró: This weekend is lively on Mallorca — tips, times, and a few local observations.

Finally, the weekend is here — and the island is celebrating

\n

On Mallorca this weekend there's a lot going on. I stopped by briefly this afternoon in Alcúdia's Old Town, where the stalls were already set up and the first scents of bratwurst and sobrasada wafted over the Passeig. The Fira d’Alcúdia begins today at 5:30 PM and runs through Sunday.

Alcúdia: Market, Music and a Horse Night

\n

The town has dressed up: market stalls line from the Port to Plaça Major, street musicians play on the corner of Calle de Sant Jaume, and in the bars the first visitors sit with a glass of wine. Tomorrow evening is the big Horse Night — a spectacle you don't see every day. The animal exhibitions start tomorrow at 12:00 PM, so if you want to bring a childhood memory (or bring little kids), you should come in the morning. I heard the riders' parade begins around 20:30 — a good opportunity for photos as the light softens.

Alaró: Feria Gremial on Sunday

\n

On Sunday it's worth a detour to Alaró: the Feria Gremial opens its gates with traditional crafts. At the stands you'll find wood and stone items, fine glass, hand-forged jewelry and small pieces of furniture — all in the shade of the old village church. The atmosphere is relaxed, the vendors often with a cheeky remark on their lips. Tip: Arrive early, otherwise it gets crowded on Carrer de la Llibertat.

Esporles: For Sweet-Tooths the Fira Dolça

\n

If you like sweets, Esporles should not be missed: the Fira Dolça starts on Sunday at 10:30 AM. Bunyols, ensaimadas, almond cookies — and more tables full of desserts than a stomach can imagine. I’ve heard the small bakeries bring out their best recipes; you can taste it right away. Parking is often tight there, so better walk or take the bus if possible.

There is live music everywhere, local bands and DJs keeping the vibe alive — sometimes folkloric, sometimes modern. For families, the markets are family-friendly: children's carousels, play areas and often a corner with animals to pet.

\n\n

One last tip: the weather is expected to stay mild, with a light breeze from the northwest. Pack a light jacket for the evening — Horse Night in Alcúdia will feel cooler once the sun goes down.

If you're planning to hit several places: expect a bit more traffic, especially on the access roads to Alcúdia and Alaró. Those who bring calm will get the most out of it. And honestly: sharing an ensaimada by the roadside somewhere — that's, for me, the best weekend moment on the island.
