Golden mackerel, tapas, and art nights: This weekend Mallorca’s villages and coastal towns are filled with markets, music, and stalls—a colorful mix of flavors and creativity.
Golden Mackerel, Tapas, and Art — a Weekend Full of Festivities
\nThe scent of fried fish and burning wood fills the air as Mallorca’s small squares and promenades again become markets this weekend. Between October 10 and 12, culinary stalls mix with studio installations: those who love to sample and stroll through exhibitions will find plenty to enjoy.
\n\nGolden Mackerel Festival in Cala Ratjada
\nIn Cala Ratjada things are loud and cheerful: the traditional Golden Mackerel Fiesta starts today with a tapas night on the harbor promenade. On Sunday is the big day — local chefs, helpers, and volunteers prepare around 1,700 kilos of golden mackerel in all variations. Expect simple beach huts, paellas beside grill stations and small bars pouring local wines. The dishes change quickly here, so it’s best to arrive around 6:30 PM when the streets fill up.
\n\nArt i Copes — Art Night in Sa Pobla
\nSa Pobla transforms from tonight through Sunday into a stage for art and small tasting stations. Under the name Art i Copes, galleries and independent artists showcase new works; there are drinks and tapas in backyards and on busy plazas. Particularly charming: the mix of handmade ceramics stalls, experimental painting, and live music that runs late into the night.
\n\nRescheduled Dates & Notes
\nThe Art Night in Santanyí was postponed to next Friday due to the uncertain weather forecast — so check the tip at the tourist information desk beforehand. In Mallorca in October: evenings get chilly quickly, so pack a light sweater, especially in mountain villages.
\n\nAdditionally, there are smaller autumn fairs in towns like Esporles, Alaró, or Llucmajor: candy stalls, sausage booths and crafts shape the streets there. You’ll meet old friends, hear local bands, and buy items you would miss at home.
\n\nPractical Tips
\nParking is limited — it’s best to come by bike or by bus. Many stalls open in the afternoon; the atmosphere becomes noticeably livelier from around 5:00 PM. Bring cash: some vendors still prefer it. And: if you want to taste special wines or cheeses, ask for the place of production — many producers are local.
