In the early hours of the morning, a risky pursuit occurred in Can Picafort: A fleeing car endangered pedestrians and eventually crashed into a house wall.
Dangerous Escape Through Busy Tourist Streets
In Can Picafort, in the early morning hours, a car caused excitement: Around 5:30 a.m. a patrol became aware of a driver who suddenly sped toward the police car. Both vehicles managed to avoid a head-on collision, but the scene soon became hardly less perilous.
Smell, threats, and a dangerous maneuver
When the officers tried to stop the car, witnesses clearly noticed the smell of cannabis from inside. The driver was not cooperative, appeared irritable, and accelerated abruptly. In doing so, he drove toward a policewoman, who had to move away and dodge at the last moment; a mark remained on the side mirror of the fleeing vehicle.
After that, the pursuit took an even riskier turn: along the busy Paseo ColĂłn â a stretch that is normally full of tourists and sun-seekers during the day â the vehicle continued to race. Sirens and lights didn't help: according to eyewitnesses, the driver ignored the signals and performed several evasive maneuvers, forcing pedestrians to step aside to avoid being hit.
Accident and arrest
A few minutes later, a resident reported a collision in another street: The sought-after car had crashed into a house wall. On-site, the police found the crashed vehicle and shortly thereafter the driver as well as two additional people who had apparently hidden themselves in a building entrance. According to the authorities, the driver remained aggressive; the police arrested him on suspicion of endangering road safety, resisting officers, and serious disobedience.
Fortunately, according to current information, no one was seriously injured. One officer sustained minor injuries from the impact near the rearview mirror and was treated on site. Residents say the street remained a topic of conversation for a long time after the incident â "you don't see things like this every day," said a resident around 7 a.m. while having coffee at the window.
The investigations are ongoing. The police are now examining whether the driver was under the influence and whether other crimes occurred. For the day, closures and further questioning of witnesses may continue.
What to take away: A familiar holiday setting can quickly become dangerous when responsibility behind the wheel is missing. The memory of the loud screeching tires will linger for many residents.
