Sales 2026 in Mallorca: When the winter promotions start and what buyers should know
The winter clearance sales start in early January — online sometimes earlier than in stores. Which brands are participating, how much you can save and practical tips for shoppers in Mallorca.
Sales 2026 in Mallorca: When the winter promotions start and what buyers should know
Online earlier, shop windows from January 7 — and tissues for the receipts
On a chilly January morning in Palma, when thermometers at Plaça Cort show 9ºC and the scent of freshly brewed coffee drifts from the cafés on Avinguda Jaume III, the first red price tags are already hanging in the shop windows. For many, that means: time to pull jackets tighter and open smartphone apps. The traditional winter sales are starting in 2026 — with a clear focus on digital customers.
The official start in most brick-and-mortar stores on Mallorca falls on Wednesday, January 7. Many large retailers, however, have staggered the sales: online promotions began slightly earlier. Similar staggered schedules were visible during other sales events such as Black Friday in Mallorca.
Some examples from the offerings: An international clothing group that includes well-known labels such as Zara, Massimo Dutti and Oysho activated discounts online on January 6; the reduced prices in stores apply from January 7. Another large chain even gave customers with loyalty cards exclusive early access — members could already shop the sale on January 5, everyone else followed online on the 6th and in stores from the 7th. A well-known department store started its digital sales on the evening of January 6 (around 10 p.m.) and released its home and fashion offers in its stores on the 7th.
Several other fashion chains have also partially activated their promotions before the classic start date. The result: those who live online more often get first access to reduced items. Loyalty programs pay off for regular customers; those shopping off-season often find the biggest bargains in the final weeks.
How much can you save? Discount levels usually start at around 30 percent. In the later phases of the clearance sale, when retailers want to make space for new collections, reductions increase to around 70 percent or even higher. For bargain hunters this means: earlier online there are more sizes available, later in stores the prices are lowest.
A few practical everyday tips: Reduced items should previously have been offered at the regular price; retailers are obliged not to provide false information about the original price history. Return and exchange policies normally also apply during the sales — unless an item has been explicitly marked as defective. Keep receipts and order confirmations; they are worth gold in the hectic phase.
The staggered online and offline schedules are no coincidence. E-commerce has gained importance on the island, and many shops respond by offering exclusive early-access promotions in apps and webshops. At the same time, classic scenes continue to unfold along the Passeig: a couple smiling at a shop window, young people discussing the last available sizes, and a shop assistant hanging the final price tags — a small, lively rush in the middle of January grey.
This is good for Mallorca: the sales bring activity to city centres, fill the tills of small shops and make room for the new collections arriving in spring. My tip: if you have a specific item in mind, compare prices online first, check availability at the store nearest you (see where you can still shop in the coming days) and then decide whether to try it on in person or have it conveniently delivered to your home. And remember: a true find still feels best after a stroll through the city.
If you want to escape the January blues, this year you can head out across Mallorca digitally or with a cup of coffee in hand. You can also check Open Shopping Sunday in Mallorca: Where You Can Shop Today for information on Sunday openings. Good luck browsing — and may the sizes be with you.
