Son Amar remains open in Bunyola – new concept for the classic event venue

The historic Son Amar venue in Bunyola will continue to operate. After restructuring, the team will focus on corporate and social events.

Son Amar: A piece of Mallorca that lives on

As you drive through Bunyola, the estate immediately catches the eye: old walls, well-kept gardens, and that slightly theatrical touch inside. Good news for anyone planning their weddings, staff parties, or product presentations here — Son Amar remains, albeit in a different form.

New course after a tough year

The family behind the site has reorganized a lot in recent months. After the death of Margaret Whittaker in February, her son Dominic Miles together with Paul Abrey took over the leadership. They did not promise miracles, but thought pragmatically: less all-around party, instead more targeted offers for corporate and social events.

That sounds initially dry, but it's a real rescue plan. The financial support that had shaped the operating climate for years is gone — so a restructuring was necessary. They reorganized spaces, streamlined schedules, and consolidated some services. For organizers, that means: clearer packages, more professionalism, and hopefully less chaos on the day of the event.

What stays, what changes?

The opulent backdrop remains: marble floors, chandeliers, and the expansive gardens have not fallen victim to the red pen. Rather, the team aims to position the facility as an exclusive stage for corporate parties, galas, and private receptions. Small local details have remained — the rosemary at the entrance, the stone staircase to the terrace — that makes Son Amar familiar.

At the same time, fewer spontaneous parties are offered. So if you were thinking of vibrant club nights, you should adjust your expectations. Instead, event planners gain a venue with clear processes, catering partners, and a steadier team that has been working behind the scenes for months.

A sense of relief

On site you sense a mix of melancholy and relief. Long-time guests tell of family celebrations from past decades, others of anxious phone calls in recent weeks. Now, with the new focus, the team breathes more easily — in part because clear offerings bring planning certainty.

Whether Son Amar will again reach its old glow as a meeting place for the island depends on several factors: how well the new strategy is received, which partners are won, and how flexibly they respond to the market. The first bookings, however, suggest that it is possible.

A piece of Mallorcan event culture remains thus — but with a somewhat different rhythm.
