On the second weekend of April the Velódromo Illes Balears in Palma turned into a large meeting point for people who see movement not as an obligation but as a social event. With a cool 16°C in the morning, a few wisps of cloud in the sky and the ever-present light sea breeze in the air, over 2,700 participants from across Spain met to test limits in teams — and to visibly have fun doing it.

The format is simple and at the same time clever: two-person teams start and must complete a course with ten functional training stations and roughly five kilometres of running. Winning here requires not just muscles, but coordination, tactics and a bit of psychology — because nothing works without communication. For children there was the Strong Kids category, which on Saturday brought loud cheers and proud parents.

On a walk around the site everyday scenes stood out that so often define events like this: volunteers with whistles, the sun falling on metal structures and running lanes, the smell of espresso from food trucks, coaches whispering final tips in ears, and spectators following every metre from the stands. On Friday a community social run kicked off the weekend, DJs provided the official opening and musical accompaniment — and at the final weekend Paco Colombàs was on the decks.

For families and the curious there were exhibitor booths, information areas and small shows — in short: a sports festival that wanted to be more than just a competition, similar in spirit to the TUI Palma Marathon.

One notable aspect was the emphasis organizers and many participants placed on sustainability and local cooperation. Waste separation at the stands, local vendors among the food trucks and the presence of local clubs ensured the event felt less like a traveling circus and more like a neighbourhood festival.
