In Valencia, neighbors found parts of a skeleton after heavy rainfall — the man is said to have been dead in his apartment for about 15 years. Investigations are ongoing.
Discovery after Storm: Body Remained Unnoticed for Years
In Valencia, an unusual side effect of the heavy rain led to a macabre discovery: Residents found remnants of a skeleton that apparently fell from a rooftop terrace and landed in the apartments below. What became clear afterwards seems unreal: The deceased is said to have been dead in his apartment for about 15 years according to initial assessments.
How Could This Happen?
The neighbors say they had not seen the man for a long time. Many thought he was already living in a care home. Invoices and rent payments continued to be debited from his account — and that made his disappearance less noticeable to outsiders. There was also apparently an automatic pension payment that kept arriving. At the same time, a debt had accumulated. According to information from people around, the managers went so far as to have accounts seized.
Police and investigators found the lifeless, clothed body inside the apartment. An exact cause of death is still pending; experts and forensic scientists were brought in. The authorities are now assessing how long the man had actually been dead and whether external fault can be ruled out.
Family and Neighbors
According to investigators, the man leaves two children, with whom he apparently had no contact anymore. This perhaps explains why no one immediately reported his absence. Some neighbors said they last saw him years ago in the stairwell. Others remember a quiet, withdrawn man — one of those people you know, but not really.
The scene has left the area nervous. It is one of those moments when bureaucracy, routine payments and social distance come together — and a missing person remains unnoticed for years.
What Remains to Be Clarified
The investigations continue: findings on the cause of death, precise dating of the time of death, and the question of how accounts continued to be processed despite the death. In the coming days, the police expect results from the Institute of Forensic Medicine.
A sad discovery that raises more questions than answers — for the neighborhood as well as for the authorities.
