On Mallorca's ring road near Palma, a driver abruptly braked a bus carrying underage vacationers for no apparent reason. The Guardia Civil investigated thanks to a cell phone video.
Sudden Stop on the Ma-20: There Was No Applause
\nAt around 9:20 a.m. on Tuesday morning, the VĂa de Cintura (Ma-20) near Palma descended into chaos. A car driver apparently began to brake abruptly in the middle of the left lane â directly in front of a tour bus. Several minors were on board the bus, on their way to the airport. Many of the waiting drivers reacted sharplyâhonking, flashing lights, holding their breath. Something like this is not often seen here.
\nVideo Led to Arrest
\nFortunately amidst the misfortune: Another road user filmed the scene on their mobile phone. The video helped the Guardia Civil identify the 31-year-old driver. According to police, the man had previously been driving in zigzags. After the abrupt braking, he got out, gesticulated vigorously and appeared agitated. Fortunately no one was injured, according to the emergency services, but the situation was clearly dangerous.
\nSuch maneuvers not only disrupt traffic, they can endanger lives â that may sound obvious, but this morning it became real once again.
\nMore Risky Driving Behaviors in a Short Time
\nThe case is not isolated. At the weekend, travelers on the Ma-13 toward Inca observed a car that was practically rolling on only two wheels â sparks flying. The DGT's control center reminds: For each damaged tire a fine of 200 euros can be imposed. In another incident, an MG was seen with passengers in the trunk â prohibited and dangerous.
\nLocals who daily use the island's roads shake their heads. "Sometimes I feel that people don't care," said a taxi driver on Plaça de España, who wished to remain anonymous. Others called for more checks and stricter penalties so that such scenes become rarer.
\nWhat Remains?
\nThe Guardia Civil continues to investigate. The video footage was decisive this time. For all of us, it's a reminder: keep distance, stay attentiveâand, if possible, document such scenes. Not for voyeurism but as a protective measure. Mallorca already has enough traffic stress; we don't need deliberate endangerments on top of it.
