Esporles invites you to the sweet Sunday market: honey, homemade ice cream, and traditional bunyols. On Saturday the Dolça Nit de l’Art art night starts at 6:00 PM.
Sweet Weekend in the Tramuntana Town
\nThis weekend Esporles is once again one of those island corners where the scent of baked dough and cinnamon drifts through the streets. On Sunday (all day) the annual candy fair takes place — the Candy Fair — with everything sweet, sticky, or definitely worth trying.
\n\nWhen and where
\nThe market runs on Sunday, roughly from 10:00 to 18:00, at Paseo del Rei and around the main streets. If you’re eager for culture on Saturday: starting at 18:00 the Dolça Nit de l’Art art night takes place on the same boulevard. If you enjoy strolling through photography and images in the evening, you’ll be right there.
\n\nWhat you can expect
\nStalls with ensaimadas in all sizes. Bunyols, freshly fried, still lightly sugar-coated. Mandeleis, a small regional pastry, that you can chew loudly. Honey from the Serra, homemade ice cream in unusual flavors (olive oil–lemon – try it!). Jams, desserts and fried potato rings for those who like salty-sweet.
\n\nThere is live music at several corners: a small jazz combo near the church, a guitar duo on Paseo del Rei and traditional melodies that make older visitors nod along. For children there are small baking workshops; perhaps the youngsters will slip on the icing – that comes with it.
\n\nPractical notes
\nParking is limited. Tip: come early or take the bus — the line that goes via Carrer Major will take you 15–20 minutes from the next larger town. The cobblestones in the old town are charming but uneven; comfortable shoes are recommended. And yes, bring some cash — many stalls accept cards, but not all.
\n\nAutumn weather in Mallorca is usually mild; expect a gentle wind from the northwest and temperatures around 20–22 °C. A light sweater for the evening is sensible, especially if you want to have a glass of wine on the Plaça after the art night.
\n\nAtmosphere and little details
\nThose who have been to Esporles know this: church bells merging with the chatter of market visitors, vendors pulling out their best recipes, and the typical island calm that stays lively. I spoke last week with a vendor named Clara — she has been baking ensaimadas for 30 years and joked: \"Old recipes are moody, but reliable.\"
\n\nThe art night is more relaxed than the fair; galleries open their doors, photographers show small series, and on the promenade there are photos with regional motifs hanging. Together, both make for a nice weekend: nibbling by day, soaking up culture in the evening.
\n\nIn short: If you love sweets or simply want a cozy Sunday excursion into the Tramuntana mountains, plan Esporles into your itinerary. Come hungry. And bring good humor.
