In Canyamel, a conflict between a German tourist and a beach employee escalates — Facebook drama included.

A heated dispute on the beach of Canyamel

Mallorca's beaches are usually havens of calm – but not all holidaymakers seem to see it that way. An incident in the popular town of Canyamel has been causing talk for several days, not only locally but also online. A German tourist vented on Facebook about a long-standing employee of the sunbed service, and did so quite bluntly.

What exactly happened?

According to various sources, the woman initially complained about an allegedly reduced number of sunbeds. The topic in itself might seem unproblematic. But then she directed her criticism straight at the employee – and below the belt.

In a Facebook group dedicated specifically to the beach of Canyamel, she wrote: "He doesn't speak German, looks dirty and seems unprofessional." Harsh words that not only outraged many other group members, but also raise the question: Do you really have to post everything online?

Holidaymakers defend the employee

The reactions to her post came quickly – and were mostly supportive of the beach employee. Many German holidaymakers expressed outrage at the woman's tone. "We are in Spain here, people speak Spanish. The man has been doing his job very well for years," one user wrote clearly.

Other comments were even more direct: "Shame on you! He works hard in this heat." Some group members even offered personal anecdotes to defend the employee. A woman wrote: "I've been coming here for over 20 years; he is always helpful and friendly."

What's behind the online stir?

The critic apparently had more than just linguistic complaints. According to her post, the man allegedly drinks beer several times a day in a nearby bar and therefore is not always present at work. She urged other group members to help her contact the employee's supervisor – a suggestion that met considerable resistance.

One replied sarcastically: "Do you want to tell him that his employee doesn't speak German? Good luck with that." Other commentators went further and simply asked the tourist to take her holidays elsewhere.

A typical case for social media?

The incident shows once again how quickly local conflicts can escalate in the digital age. What used to be a grumpy exchange on the beach now becomes an online debate with hundreds of opinions.

But despite all the discussion, one thing remains clear: In Canyamel this employee will continue to set up sunbeds – with or without Facebook support.

Can we learn anything from this?

Maybe: A little more patience on vacation never hurts – and neither does respect for the people on site.
