After a series of burglaries in residential homes, the Guardia Civil arrested a couple. Residents report unease, and investigations continue.
Arrest Following Burglary Series: Two Suspects in Custody
The Guardia Civil arrested last week a 25-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman, who are suspected of being responsible for numerous residential burglaries in the Santa Margalida and Muro area. According to police sources, the two are suspected of breaking into a total of 16 apartments. Victims and neighbors speak of an uneasy feeling that has lingered on several streets since June.
How investigators are proceeding
The investigations began when officers noted a striking pattern: frequent break-ins in the towns around the MA-12, often during the day when residents were away. Investigators suspect that the perpetrators observed potential targets beforehand and exploited vulnerabilities in doors or windows. During searches, officers found numerous items that could be returned to several victims.
The value of the loot is estimated in current reports at over âŹ100,000. Among them: jewelry, cash, and personal valuables. Many of the families affected say the loss is less about material loss than about the feeling of being violated in their own homes.
The situation on the ground
I have been in Santa Margalida in recent days; in cafe corners and at the plaza you can hear conversations about 'who was that' and 'did you leave the lights on?' A neighbor on Calle Major told me how, after a long day at work, she unlocked her door and only later noticed that jewelry was missing. Such stories repeat themselves on several streets.
The arrestees are said by the police to have pried open doors or windows. The Guardia Civil now checks whether the duo is responsible for further acts on Mallorca. For this, traces will be compared with already known cases and statements from residents will be evaluated.
What you can do now: The police recommend simple security measures: shutters or timer switches, neighborhood communication about absences, and if you suspect something, call 062 immediately. A tip from neighborhood gossip: a vigilant dog, even a small one, is often more effective than expensive technology â as locals say here.
The investigations continue. For many affected, there remains the hope of recovering lost belongings and keepsakesâand that the street will become quieter again. As soon as the Guardia Civil releases new results, I will follow up and report.
