On the MA-19, a tragic accident occurred at night: A man was struck by a car on the airport access road and died at the scene. Police and emergency services are investigating.
Night-time incident: Pedestrian on MA-19 dies after collision
During the night to Tuesday, the peace on the MA-19 was abruptly shattered: at around 11 p.m., several motorists reported via emergency calls that a person was walking on the travel lane toward the airport. Shortly after, additional calls came in—one vehicle had struck the person.
Emergency responders on the scene could only confirm death
Local Police, Civil Guard, and the emergency medical service Samu 061 rushed to the scene immediately. The medics began resuscitation on-site, but the man died practically immediately after the impact, according to authorities. On the wet stretch, a few tire fragments were still visible in the morning when I passed the site the next day.
Traffic disruptions and late concerns
Drivers reported a sudden traffic jam, flashing safety vests, and an uneasy feeling: 'You can hardly see anything, it all happened so quickly,' said one of the first responders later. On the MA-19, long queues formed afterward; commuters toward Palma and travelers to the airport had to turn back or detour. Such nighttime accidents always have two sides: for the relatives, it is a crushing shock, for other road users the memory of vulnerability on the roads remains.
The Civil Guard has cordoned off and documented the accident scene. Investigators are now examining vehicle tracks, camera footage, and possible witness statements. Once further details are available, they will be released. Until then, the sad certainty remains: one life has been lost on a stretch of asphalt that many of us use daily.
Our thoughts are with the relatives. Anyone who observed anything during the night or can provide information is asked to contact the Civil Guard—every small detail helps to better understand the deceased's last hour.
